Default Best option for 18" Wheels after Caliper replace

Expecting delivery of MY23 P400 in December.

I've read a lot of great info here, but still not clear on best tire set up for off-road. I am considering the Lucky8 caliper replacement so I can run 18" Wheels, but other than Tuff Ant I don't know what my wheel options are. Any suggestions on wheels and possible tire combos would be appreciated. I also will likely put an a 1.5" lift rod.

I know there are compromises that must be considered, so just fire away. I am trying to learn all I can before I make a final decission.

A quick search on Aftermarket wheels showed these links. Some wheels are shown in 20" but are also available in 18" like the Redbourne Alston which is now the Black Rhino Alston.

Of course you have the 18" steelies from LR as well as their 18" alloy wheel. Also browse through the sticky "No lift tire size guide" at the top of the home page, others have pics of their wheels.

Johnson Rods has the Compomotive 18" wheels they sell. Not an exhaustive list but should get you started. Good luck!

I love the look of the Bowler 18inch wheels used on the Challenge race 90s

Welcome to the converted . I just went through this myself. Careful on the LR or any steelies, though I do not have first hand experience with them I hear that you likely need spacers depending on the model you are converting from.

I started with a 2 inch rod lift with grounded rear calipers and the Tuffant 18 inch wheels which fit with no issues after grinding the rear calipers. I am running 275/70/18 TOYO MTs (33.6 inches) which rubbed very slightly

Current setup is a 2inch subframe lift same tire and wheel combo ( it still rubbed slightly) but have relocated the coolers for larger tires in the future and trimmed the bottom of the bumper (no more rubbing at any height) It only needed about a 1/2 to 1 inch trim on the bottom
Good luck. Lots of wheel options out there and this forum is very active and helpful

Evo Course Dark Zero is another option with the caliper swap/trim.

Great thread with those and caliper trim here.

Tuffant offer the Simpson (ET+27) and Kimberley (ET+29) Both work with the swapped/trimmed calipers. Tuffant Pilbara Steelies require spacers to fit the P400 with brake swap

The OEM steelies also require spacers on the rear to fit the P400 with the swapped Disco5 Calipers.

Kimberley on P400. Black, grey, bronze and white are options.

Black OEM steelies from the Trek Edition, shown with no rods and in Extended height.

As reported by Gavin, these work just fine with the LR5 rear calipers but so far still require 25mm spacers in the back only. I use no lift rods but own Johnson 1.5s and using them doesn't change the need for spacers.

I intend to do a little grinding on these calipers and see if I can clear them without the need for spacers in back because these are a 2nd set of wheels/tires for me, and I swap them on when going off-road and off when switching back to street use, and the work is more than 50% longer if spacers are required because even my thinnest-walled lugnut socket won't fit well enough into the deep well of the spacers to use my impact wrench, so I have to install/remove those 10 lugs with a manual ratchet. Hopefully, a little nip and tuck on the LR5 calipers will let me forego the use of spacers.

Cheers!

Has anyone had to grind down the front brake calipers to fit 18s? I just did a test fit with the 18s I want to pick up, but they touch the front brakes. Wheels are Rotiform STL 18x9 ET 30. I’m able to mount them, but any movement will scrape the brake. And, yes, I removed the hockey puck before mounting the wheel.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
