Default Brake rotor size

Just rotated my tires on my ‘22 X-Dynamic SE and found that I need rear brakes, pads at the least. On a previous LR RR Evoque I replaced them with EBC Yellowstuff pads and slotted/dimpled rotors. The difference between those and OEM were night and day. Looking to do the same on this Defender but getting conflicting info on parts from different sources. I have the P400 with the 3.0L engine. The ones I found specify fitment only if the front rotors are 380mm and the rears are 365mm. Can anyone confirm that the ‘22 X-Dynamic SE P400 with a 3.0L engine has these specs as far as rotor size goes? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I believe it depends on factory wheel size: 18” wheels had 349mm front/325mm rear, 19” had 363mm front/350mm rear and 20/22” had 380mm front/365mm rear. If any doubt best to measure them.

Thanks Skyfall, I do have the 20” wheels, so based on your understanding also, I believe the ones I’ve settled on will be the proper fit. But I will take your advice and measure to be sure. Appreciate it.

Rotors small, medium, and large.

in US market

Large is on the V8s and the P400s that came on factory 22"s usually.

Small on the P300

Medium on the rest.

JLR sure has a way to confuse everybody. On the phone with three different parts suppliers, and I’m still not sure until I take a measurement. But I’m still sold on the EBC brakes because of my past experience on my Evoque. They made a huge difference on my first drive after I swapped them out. Low dust, great performance, and quiet. Stopping power far better than OEM.

Agree. Why have one brake type when 3 will do? It's nuts.

Factory brakes are pretty great though. Swapped out my rear pads at just shy of 60k and the fronts look like they'll go another 40k. I have the pads ready to go but plenty of meat on them yet.
I've found landleaping.com to be a great resource for parts and questions about fitment. Especially helpful on brakes and fluids for the rear diff, front diff and t-case. Always helpful and their prices are good.

Agree on the factory brakes, they are more than adequate, smooth, no fade, and quiet. Our Defenders are heavy, and under speed that’s a lot of force to bring to a halt. On a side note, the front pads have at least a year left on them, while the rears need replacing in the next few weeks. I was always used to the front pads wearing out before the rear pads.

The fronts are much much bigger. Probably about triple the surface area of the rears.

BTW I just verified this today. Gavin’s right. The Rover’s North and other aftermarket seller (non JLR) catalogues are wrong online -- most of them just list 18” as small, 19” wheels as medium, and 20” as large (and they ignore the fact that there are even 22” wheels or V8 models). That’s incorrect. What Gavin says above for rear brake rotor size is spot on !

Doing a search for pads, and when looking at Akebono’s website they have one listing/part number for Defender, whether 2.0L, 3.0L or 5.0 L, no regard to wheel size. It seems like the rotor size is different based on wheel size, but to use the same pad across all engines or wheel size?
