Hi, I recently bought a 2020 Defender at a good price, but it's out of warranty and I now have a daytime running light out. I've got no interest in spending thousands to get that back.

I'm considering buying the gap tool g4 so I can enable ACC, but I was wondering...can I use the gap tool to turn off DRL completely? I'd rather just have them both off if I can.

I'm going to say yes it can. Here are the functions in the tool that are related to the DRLs.

- To turn off DRL / signature LEDs, aka "halos" in premium / matrix type headlamps:
MultiCAN-468 FntDRLType
Current: Incorporated DRL and Pos
New: No DRL

-Modify signature LEDs behavior

MultiCAN-463 DRLBehWhilstDIsAct
Current: Turn Off
New: No Action

MultiCAN-465 DRLBehWhHazardsAct
Current: Turn Off
New: No Action

This setting is to keep them on while the turn signals or hazard lights are operating.

If you ever decide you want them back on, I have gotten two now from eBay for $500 and they are still working great. It is an easy 15-20min job to replace them. The dealer cost to replace two headlights was a little over 7k.

 

Can the GAP Tool change the DRL from the headlights to the fog lights? I have one DRL light out but I'd still like to have them.

 

I replaced one headlight for less than $400.
30 minute job. Very simple job. Basic tools and skills.

i repaired the old one for $10. It’s a spare now.
Not as simple as the swap but very doable.

Turning them off with GAP is even simpler. No downside really.

 

I'm hoping someone has first hand experience with using the fog lights as DRL.

 

It doesn’t work. There’s no Gaptool setting to do so.

 

The only thing you can toggle with the fog lights is to keep them on when the high beams are on. The current state is to shut them off when the high beams come on. I have not seen a toggle for always on fogs.
