Center display won't come on
For the 4th time in the first year I've owned my Defender, the display will remain black after start up.
After the first time it happened, I was told the display is sensitive to heat. This was last summer in TX. The next two times I was told it was a glitch or needed a software update.
To me, it seems like a replacement is in order.
Has anyone else run into this?

Happened to me yesterday as well, 2024 110. 3rd time in 7 months ownership. Definitely not heat related as I was parked in the garage where it was below 72F. First time was in December below 50F. I notice the touch screen is still functional (and CarPlay works) even though screen is completely black.
Only 'fix' I've found is to shut car off, lock doors, let it sit for 20minutes. Screen always came back when I went to drive off again. I sent an e-mail to my SA this morning about it. Biggest concern is loss of cameras when reversing.

Like so many other Defender software issues, (missing XM radio, missing radio volume, missing power steering) a simple shut down and restart will usually fix it. Plan B is to disconnect the negative battery terminal under the passenger seat for about 5 minutes. That reboot seems to fix any issue. It's part of the charm of owning a British-engineered vehicle. (And the reason so many first time Defender owners quickly traded-in their Defender and ran back to Lexus/Toyota for a transportation appliance)

I had a lot of things go wrong with my Defender but not this. I never used carplay, just streamed music off the phone with BT. I was wondering if what you're seeing might be some bug related to carplay integration. Being a masochist is essential to the ownership experience for these things. I just hit 20k miles on my Passport/Trailsport appliance. Not even so much as a screw loose thusfar. Absolutely loving it. I watched a YT video last night of the 10 worst (as in least reliable) SUVs, Defender was somehow not mentioned lol but disco sport came out as the worst followed by the evoque. There was a time I thought an article like this was a lot of BS and probably rigged but then I bought a new Defender and learned first hand it wasn't all BS... https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshmax...h=63a956f563b8
Cool vehicle? yes, but you'd better be expecting lots of gremlins and for those who claim to haven't any they're either getting paid a stipend to say otherwise out on the net or they're flat out getting lucky.

While somewhat true, most of us experience nothing but luxury in an offroad vehicle.
That's around 98-99% but the 1% is very vocal.
I have had my problems, mostly related to tires, which aren't made by JLR. I tend to bitch a lot but much of the time I find better ways spend my time.
I think I have seen this twice in 10 months? "Double" lock, wait 10 minutes. Some have a 10mm plastic coated wrench to unhook the battery, but I have not needed it.

Agreed, unrelated to CarPlay. Apple Maps appears in my gauge cluster and my music starts playing through CarPlay like normal. The center screen is still operational for me, it's just a black screen so you can't see what you are pressing on. Hopefully LR are on it and address it in a future software update.

In the PIVI 1.4.6 release notes it states that it addresses this issue, (This update resolves a potential issue where the Driver Display may appear blank...) This has happened to be about 1/month since I got my vehicle and it is usually when I have something I hate playing on my Spotify so that I can't easily change it.
