Correct, the checkered plates are all matte-black and the hood plates are gloss-black.

I like the fake chequer plate. It's functional and not hard to install. A little disconcerting pulling off the rear corners of a new truck. The rear section is great and used a lot. I need to stand on the rear section to unzip/zip my roof top tent.

From my Instagram pic...
I like the contrast with my color scheme.

I love the plates. They really tie the truck together, man.

Also, the ones on the rear wheel catch a ton of debris thrown from my BFG ATs. I would definitely have some chips and scratches without them.

I have a Base Model........my hood plates are Matte Black. I have just ordered the full kit along with the wheel arch kit. For those who have gloss black plates on their hoods, I see that my dealer offers to paint them Gloss Black, if customer requests. I would imagine, dealers in other areas, do the same.

They offer to paint the checkered plates or the wheel arch kit?

Yes.............my dealer offers to paint the 5 piece Checker Protection Kit as well as the 4 piece Checker Wheel Arch Trim Kit (see pic below)..........obviously, at an extra charge. I am not talking about the Wheel Arch Extension Kit, which is something different.........but, they'd probably paintt that as well......LOL!!!!!!

I prefer the matte as it hides scratches more. But I offroad my truck mainly. I found a new product, chemical guys plastic restorer for my faded LR3 plastic that works well on the new pieces also.

Amazon Amazon

any paint shop should be able to paint the pieces for less than the dealer.

My hood plates are gloss black (2021 P400 SE). I think the factory gloss came with either the black-exterior-package or the black-signature-plate option. I can’t recall which one turned the hood decals gloss-black from the factory. Same option turns the A-pillars gloss-black. All the body protection plates are matte black plastic.

What's the best tool to use for prying off that rear corner piece? Are the nylon interior trim removing tools best? Or do you need the metal pry bar (and presumably something to prevent the body panel from getting scratched)?
