Considering a Defender
I’m a new member to the forum and looking forward to learning from everyone. I have owned a 2014 LR4 for 3 years which my wife drives daily. My DD has been a 2014 JKU Sahara for 6-1/2 years so yeah I’m ready for something more comfortable. I test drove a P400 at my local dealer and loved it. Unfortunately I’m not sure a want to pay $70k so I’m thinking about a P300. Just curious as to those of you who own the P300, do any of you regret the purchase? Other than the power of the engine, the audio system is a big concern for me. I appreciate any feedback you guys can offer.

P300 or P400, buyers seem very pleased with the engines and the transmissions. Relative to the stereo, if it is important to you, definitely purchase the upgraded version. The base stereo, which I have, is fine, but nothing memorable or impactful.
Yeah, our LR4 is a LUX and the Meridian is very impressive. That said I’m not sure if the P400 Meridian system and the extra 100 HP are worth $12k over the P300. I’m also considering keeping my Jeep and just buying a 4Runner as a daily driver. The Defender would require me trading the Jeep.
I did a small comparison of the 2 engines a lil bit ago. We own a P400 and while it was in the shop the last time we had a P300 for a loaner. I was very pleasantly surprised and pleased with the P300. It was super smooth, had plenty of power and was quieter than our P400. If you are not towing a heavy amount, I would say the P300 would be plenty for day to day driving. If ours didn't come with the P400 we would have gotten the smaller P300 ourselves.
As for the radio, we have whatever was standard in the 1st Edition, and it is plenty. But then again, loud stereos have never been my thing. All I know is the Meridian system is worlds better than any other system we have ever had. And we have owned Nissan's with the BOSE systems and Lexus' with the Mark Levinson system. We have even owned some Harmon Kardon systems before. The Meridian is far better.

If you're looking at the 4R, it will be notably more comfortable than your Jeep. To see how the 4R compares to the Defender you can see my comments on ExPo as we have both:

I am an admitted LR fanboi, for all that I have only owned one. I still cross-shopped the 4Runner, but I am tall and there was just no way. Didn’t even test drive, and that was a model without the sunroof. My head was hitting the ceiling unless I slumped, I was peering past the Sun visor.
As to engines — I’m also at 5000’+, and don’t have my Defender yet. I found the P300 more than adequate including some decently steep climbs (on-road) on a couple of test drives. Forced aspiration is such a game changer for engines up here! The money saved on not getting the P400 went into some of the accessories I wanted, and while I could have stretched to more, I didn’t feel the need.
Let’s see how I feel when I have the car and drive it daily, eh?

I’m not sure how I overlooked the Meridian option for $350 on the P300 Defender S. Now my build on the configurator is around $59k which is almost $20k more than a 4Runner. That’s essentially the value of my Jeep so it’s a big 2 for 1 vehicle trade off if I go with the Defender.
