you are right, the fit kit is available from REI which is where i got it from.

As you know, the whole setup is comprised of 3 parts: the bars, the podium system and the fit kit.

I meant to refer to the podium system which was not available in the U.S. at the time when i was trying to order it, so i ended up ordering it from the U.K.

as for the height of it, i think the factory cross bar might be actually taller than the thule set up that we are talking about.

 

Question: I have thule box as shown with square bars, 50" each and 29" spacing.
What do I need to put it on defender rails?

 

Any issues with racks / accessories bought in Europe getting through US customs?

 

I bought in UK, had to pay taxes in Canada, no issues.

 

I tried that web site said it wouldn’t ship to my address in USA.

 

All the parts amount to about $500 with shipping added at that UK site. I paid $480 after tax with free shipping for the same Thule set up in the states.

 

£/$ was a bit of an arbitrage for Americans last year. Was close to 1:1, now 1:1.3.

 

The amount $500 that I cited is US$500 that is based on today's foreign exchange rate.

 

I ended up going with the Thule Wingbar Evo / Podium 3040 Fit Kit set-up. Planning on adding the Kuat Grip 6 with Kuat's direct mounts.

 

I need part numbers for this set up. Best one i have seen yet. Does the sunroof clear when open?
