Yes I am considering removing the rear seat and the aluminum bar in my D90. Trying to source a D90 Hard Top rear floor and underpinnings is proving to be very difficult. The rear seat is impressive in how much room but I don't see too much need. But storage is def at a premium with the small cargo area. If i can source the Hard top floor that would get a huge amount of space and open up the rear just like in the older models. Strange it wasn't an option and in the Hard top they have put a divider wall between the front seat and rear cargo area. It I can just get a hybroid between the two that would really solve all the cargo problems and with the jump seat still seat 3 easier said than done!

This question keeps coming up so I created a quick and dirty video to show how you remove the seat base to allow the seats to lie flat.
The production quality isn’t high, but it should answer your questions.

The quick answer is the seats don’t lie flat with the base cushion intact.
They do if you spend the few seconds it takes to remove the base cushion.
This isn’t really a design flaw, it is a reality of this type of packaging. The 2 door Wrangler has a similar problem.

Thanks for posting. Agree with you on the design flaw. The design flaw would be if they fold flat but made for an uncomfortable rear seat, which I feel is the case for my 2017 D5 and why they modified its rear seat after a couple model years.

Great post, Penquinn. Thanks for taking the time to show how easy it is to make the seats fold flat. I haven't had the need to try this in my 90 yet, but I'm glad to know the seat bottom does not need to stay behind in the garage. It gives flexibility for unplanned purchases!
