A plus for the defender, it doesn’t have an engine Toyota recalled on 5/30/24 for cratering during use.

Yep, Toyota as well as Lexus have recalled their cars with the newest turbocharged engines for serious issues.

Funny how Toyota owners love to bash on Land Rover reliability, yet the new Tundra/LX engines are being recalled for catastrophic failures.

The Defender feels so much more special when driving compared to a Lexus, which feels like other Toyota products. As for reliability, trucks like the Tacoma run forever because most of the mechanical tech is from the 90s. I imagine a naturally aspirated 250hp V6 should run forever it's a low-output, low-stress drivetrain. However, as soon as Toyota builds something without an anemic setup, they have issues just like everyone else. I'll take my chances with the Defender

I guess the Defender won, but it was anything but a rout. In nearly every measurable, objective category the Toyo won. Now obviously, I am a Defender guy (well, really a Jeep guy, but a Defender guy for fancy, electronics-biased luxury SUVs) but even still, I was hoping the difference would be more noticeable, a real blowout for LR.

I look at the results differently considering Toyota had a chance, at least several years, to evaluate the strengths of the Defender and time to build something significantly more capable. That they didn’t or couldn’t speaks volumes about the Defender.
