If I had to choose between owning that and the lightning strike, I’ll take the lightning.

 

Eh... I think it needs a frame up top to support either a hard top or soft top.. .looks wrong without.

Sorry, but if the Evoque convertible failed to excite buyers, I am wondering what hope a 2X cost Defender might have?


Owned a 2016 4 door Evoque and loved it -- terrific off road (for not having a transfer case). The convertible did not attract sufficient purchasers and was taken out of the line up.

 

We did an offroad course in our LR3 that was sponsored by the local LR dealer. There was an Evoque in front of us and I could not believe how capable it was given it's limited ground clearance and no low gear.

 

I purchased an Evoque the first model year they were produced, 2012. Heard all the warnings about Land Rover reliability, and how not to buy the first year of a new model. Well, owned it for eight years with zero problems, never saw the dealer once I took delivery. Took it to the Outer Banks, NC for beach 4-wheeling and found it to be extremely capable in the soft sand. I would drop tire pressure to around 20 lbs, where most of the other drivers aired down to 10-12 lbs. Saw all manner of vehicles getting bogged down, stuck, needing help with tow straps, while I was effortlessly gliding along in my Evoque. Loved that vehicle; although when I saw the first convertible version of an Evoque I cringed. Ugly. No wonder they didn’t sell.
