Default Defender Octa and wheel spacers

Hi Experts,
i just joined you and this is my first thread.

I have a Defender Octa running BFGoodrich tyres on 20” wheels, and I like a more aggressive stance with the tyres sticking out a bit.

I’m thinking about installing wheel spacers, so wanted to ask:
  • Has anyone tried spacers on the Octa?
  • What size worked best for you?
  • Any issues with rubbing or driving?
  • And is it need any adjustments for the suspension?


Appreciate your advices !

Just wanted to let you know that Land Rover Defender OEM OCTA wheels do NOT fit standard land rover defender that came with 22 inch wheels. The front caliper is pushing them out. The rear one fits just fine.
So I have I don't think spacers would help as you limiting bolts security. Also, you will create offset if put a spacer at front and not there rear. Its a mess, let me know if anybody successfully installed OCTA wheels on the normal defender.

I use onlu H&R spacers and have been for over 10 years now on my LR3 and on a Mercedes G63.
They can be in 20mm or 25 or 30mm for Land Rover spec.

If you use the factory spec 33" tire size, then 25mm spacers should work but 20mm might be a safer choice and also look great, this is especially if you have the mud flaps, which if using an AT tire and ever going on gravel, you should have mud flaps or else the gravel will chew up the front lower part of the rear fender flares from the gravel coming off the front tires.

I have 34" tires on my OCTA which means spacers cannot be used or else serious rubbing would occur when turning the front wheels.

thanks for sharing, I found the photos but no info mentioned about the size of the spacers 25mm or 30mm.

Do you believe that 30mm in the rear and 25mm will work fine , or going with 25mm rear and 20mm back ?

So in my experience using spacers on the lr3, range rover, G63 and tested on the OCTA, while it does look cool, it actually decreases the handling quality. I would not use a different spacer for front vs rear, I would instead use the same and keep it to 25mm.

With the right kind of wheels, there is no issue with the stud sticking through. You can look at the mounting surface on the backside of the wheel to see if there or voids between each stud opening to allow for use of a 20mm spacer. Otherwise I have never had trouble using 25mm.

Keep in mind if you do not have the mud flaps, you will destroy the lower sill and front lower part of the rear fender arch from rocks spit up out of the front tires.

The whole issue with spacers and tire clearance while turning is made worse the wider you go, whether by spacers or by tire width and height.
So, keeping that in mind, you start with the factory spec of 33" tall but only 275 wide. Keeping that size you can use a 25mm spacer but on a normal factory wheel. If you were to also use an aftermarket wheel, with a wider offset, you may run into clearance issues.

The easiest thing to do if you are buying another set of wheels is to get some with a slightly wider offset, like ET 25, but NOT use spacers. Or, use spacers but with "normal" 41 ~ish +/- offset.

Trust me that the best spacers to be sure you're getting a good design and construction are H&R. There are others out there but you have to really research the quality. HR are German made and I've been using them for 15 years.

I’m already running mud flaps, so that should help protect the lower sill and rear arches. For now I’m sticking with the factory 20” wheels. If I change later, I’ll probably go with 22” (either OEM OCTA or aftermarket) for summer/on-road, and keep the 20s for the tougher off-road use.

Also, I’ve seen quite a few people running different setups front vs rear and honestly I feel like 25mm front and 30mm rear gives a nicer visually.
