I'm interested in replacing the hood, side and rear plastic diamond plate with metal diamond plate.
Has anyone done this or found a source for these?
Saw this on Autoblog (https://www.autoblog.com/2021/05/13/...er-rusty-trim/) but these are sprayed with a thin layer of metal over the original plastic.

 

I believe that the challenge is that the current plastic diamond plate has innumerable posts, clips and other mounting type trim attachments on the other side. Usually Diamond plate needs to be welded or have a bolt on the back side of it. I'm pretty confident someone can just cut the bits to size and do that but it would be quite "invasive". Personally, I LOVE where you are going because I hate the cheesy plastic and would love a better solution. But I just can't see how it would happen without being hugely expensive or quite a chill in drilling holes thru body parts to mount bolts.

 

Considering the popularity, I wouldn’t be surprised to see aftermarket bonnets (with usable step plates I hope).

 

With all the safety regulations in place for modern cars I doubt you will find any company that produce and sell them in real metal let alone real diamond plate. Admittedly it would be cool to have them in real metal but in a real world accident it could potentially kill people during impact.

 

I have strongly considered either getting them professionally line-x'd or DIY truck bed liner.

Would give it a more legit appearance without getting overly complicated/custom.

You do realize the hood itself is made of “real metal”?

 

You do realize the hood is designed to crumble and to absorb energy during impact?

 

Yes. And gluing a piece of cosmetic diamondplate to it isn’t going to change that.
