Do we really need a V8?
Looking at the speed specs, I would say no, 5.8 0-60 vs 5.1 isn’t a huge improvement. I personally would think it would need to his low-mid 4’s before saying it was needed. should it be offered, absolutely because some have one vehicle and need it to be sporty and capable.
Throttle responsiveness is excellent at least as far as I can tell, as you imagined. Zero lag, shockingly so considering the weight/heft of the beast. I’ve only had it for about 4 days so no off roading yet, but plan on doing so this month or next in Vermont or PA (my two zones). Will try to take some muddy pics in contrast to the sheen it has going on now. One of the things people notice the most is how easy it is to clean, ha. There are a couple modes that come to mind, i think dynamic and comfort which dial up and down the zip depending on your feel.

@Dndicicco that is a great looking Defender! I kinda wish the V8 models came with more color choices.
haha, yes, I suppose now you have to take Henry Ford's adage and adopt the black (or grey!). I assume next year there will be a broader panoply of colors or something to spice up the line. The all-black premium interior looks sharp, too, if you're into that. I had a lighter tan in my old vehicle which was somewhat dated and seemed to yellow over time.

And I really like the grey, but surprised it is an extra $1K for that option. Give me Pangea green! I also noticed on the V8, JLR includes the activity key as standard option. Man, that activity key needs to be integrated into an Apple Watch or something. Operations look so clunky. Even BMW has moved to locking and u locking with an Apple or Android device.
In terms of trims, etc, not sure if this link works for something you all have seen, but I liked this brochure:
