Default Does 2024 D90 P300 fit 18” wheels?

Does the 2024 D90 P300 fit 18” wheels?

I understand from @Zondar that for 2024, U.S. P300 has 13.7" front and 12.8" rear rotors. Is that sufficient to fit 18” wheels?

Context: I bought a 2024 Defender 90 P300 equipped with 255/65 R19 all seasons that I want to replace with Nokian’s Hakkapeliitta LT3 for the winter and KO2/KO3 for late spring to early fall.

Yes, you should be able to. The 18" and 19" wheels on the P300s have the 13.7" front and 12.87" rear rotors w/ a two-pot caliper up front and a single-piston in the rear. If you could take a picture of the brakes and post it here, I can verify if the 18" wheels will fit.

I learned from my dealer in Asheville USA that the D90 is no longer sold with 18" wheels -- even with the off-road options selected. We confirmed with the service and parts guys that JLR has stopped offering 18" wheels because of complaints on braking capability -- JLR has apparently put a larger caliper on the 2024.5 and onward 4 cyl defenders.

So, I held off on ordering a 4 cylinder P300 D90 to replace my 2013 LR4. The last thing I want is a Defender with the dreaded 19" or 20" wheels!

The dealer would not help me swap out the larger wheels/ tires for an 18", even if I bought the smaller calipers. So it goes.

I am holding onto the 2013 LR with 90K miles until I figure out next steps .............

I would question the accuracy of this statement from your dealer's salesbro as the 18" steelies are still available in the Australian market on the D90 diesel. Not available on the D110 as these are all higher spec.

Seems JLR are still fitting brakes on some Defenders with 18" rims in mind, but it's an ever vanishing option.

I think it's purely a supply and demand scenario. The drive is toward bigger and bigger rims and race-car defenders.

Glad I got my factory steelies a while ago. Now just waiting on powerful UK to come out with a package to swap them out.

I know it’s done frequently but for off-road use those kinds of clearances would make me super nervous. Any amount of mud/rocks/grit in there is going to dangerously score the barrels. At least the steelies are more robust against fracture but an aluminum can catastrophically fail when it gets that kind of damage and stress risers…

it’s all been well documented. Not sure what you’re waiting for. The solution is tried and tested.

You need
Disco 5 calipers on the rear
Shave them a bit
Spacers to clear the front brakes.

I think it’s ill advised trying to run the OEM 18” rims on the P400. The +41.5 offset makes things far too tight.

plenty of great aftermarket options with more clearance.

even then you’re going to get some internal groves on the rims with off road debris. Unavoidable.

the new steel Tuffant Pilbara X fit with only the brake mod. Much better offset.

anyway. Sorry for the tangential post OP.

Some internal grooves on an 18” with +29 offset as an example. All 5 look the same. 30000 miles on them. It’s sort of self limiting. But the calipers will be chewed up with steelies and these tiny clearances. Something’s gotta give.

I really want the factory wheels but without the problems. Does anyone know if I get the whole setup from the A arms out they would bolt up the my existing unibody? What I am thinking is of buying a set of A arms calipers rotors all ready assembled from P300 that is in a junk yard for whatever reason. Would the setup I am thinking of bolt right up?

It's not a 90 but I have a 2024 p300 110 and I ordered it on 18" factory steelies. I don't know why the 90 would have larger brakes than the 110 so my guess would be you are fine.
