Default Downsizing from 22's

Question for downsizing wheels and adding winter tires. I currently have 22" five spoke rims on my 2021 P400 SE - with Continental Cross Contacts. I want to keep this set up for 3 seasons, but want to purchase some 19" or 20" five spokes (on ebay), and add a decent winter tire to these rims and switch them out in winter.

Best 19/20" winter tire options? (Not AT tires, just a good winter tire for New York - I don't off-road at all)
Is there a brake caliper issue when downsizing from 22" to 19/20" or is that just a caliper size difference from P300 to P400?

Many thanks in advance.

No changes are needed when downsizing from 22 to 19/20inch wheels.

between 19 and 20. Everyone will agree 20 is a better wheel size due to the greater variety and options available for that size.
I’m only aware of 1 winter tire that comes in 19inch
hakkapelitta lt3’s are studded winter tires and probably the best/most premium winter tire available.

i would see if 20s are available on offerup, marketplace, or Craigslist as well.

Thanks for this - I've found both OEM 19" and OEM 20" gloss black wheels available on ebay that I'm interested in - both have Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires on them - which I would probably swap out for a better performing winter tire - but there are also some just wheel (no tire) options which I can add any tire I want to - just a case of choosing the right winter tire. I'm reading good reports about Blizzak's, or perhaps the Yokohama Geolandars.

I had the same dilemma when I did this for my RR, 20" options are much better. I went with a 275/55/20 Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3. Would be curious if that fits on a Defender.

We've run Bridgestone Blizzaks on 22" wheels for years on several different vehicles, on our 3rd set. Fantastic winter tire. Recommend to check them out.

hey - just reviving this to ease my mind. i've got a 2022 x dynamic HSE 110 p400 incoming (managed to snag someones cancelled order). spec is great, except it's coming on 22 inch gloss black wheels which i'm most likely going to want to swap down to 20's. while i wait for someone at LR to confirm this is gonna work, just figured i'd post here to ask again. everything i see, says it's no problem, no issues with brakes, etc. but figured i'd ask one more time. (sorry, my OCD kicked in and i have issues with waiting

appreciate hearing from anyone in the know or who has done similar. thanks.

I certainly could be mistaken, but I believe the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires come in a fit-for-fit 19" size and have the three-peak mountain snowflake designation. They're probably one of the better all-around tires for the Defender. Their downfall - based on YouTube vids and responses here - is that they don't have great sidewall strength and are prone to sidewall punctures while rock-crawling.

But it's still an incredibly capable tire for the 19" crowd.
