Post "Emergency Braking & Lane Assist not available"

This may be common knowledge around here, but figured I'd post in case anyone else encounters this in the future, and possibly save someone the worry.

Got this message on the dash yesterday during a 6-hour highway journey:

"Emergency Braking and Lane Assistance not available"

it varied between those, and "Adaptive mode unavailable" regarding the adaptive cruise control, but still allowed me to use regular cruise control settings and speed limiter. This happened suddenly while driving, and I had been driving in misty/rainy weather for about 4 hours by this time, but it didn't strike me as particular dirty, salty, or grimy conditions. Randomly the lane keep assistance would come back on, but then the error would reappear after a minute or so, with the green lane lights going out and a dash message.

I stopped to clean off the windshield sensors behind the rearview mirror zone, all of my parking sensors, all cameras (front, rear and each mirror), and reset the Pivi software by holding down the volume button for 20 seconds, but none of this helped.

Today I washed the car and took extra time to cloth wash the front Land Rover badge and black housing behind it in the front grille (where the radar sensor is housed behind). After driving a few miles, the error messages disappeared and all works like it should
I must say, I was surprised how little visible dirt was actually on the radar module to cause the issue. It's probably a good idea to clean it more carefully time to time as preventative maintenance.

^ Exactly. Happened to me last night driving back from skiing in slushy wet snow. Guessing a combination of the snow coming down and slushy road salt coming off the car in front of me blocks the sensor.

It would be nice if they put windshield squirters on these sensors as they do the rear camera so you could clean them while in operation but maybe that isn't enough pressure to make a difference.

The headlight washers are pretty powerful, just need to add one aimed at the sensor.

yeah bad weather/dirt/mud/crap on the front of your car disables all that as it gets blinded, happens with most systems not unique to the defender/LR

And yet people still think fully autonomous vehicles are just around the corner.

Since this thread has some action, anyone know if I can disable (permanently) lane assist? During this current Winter there's been 5-6 times it has tried to correct me when there's no correction need. Pretty jarring when you are trying to make an exit ramp and it straightens out the vehicle. I see you can disable it in the options menu but it comes back when you turn it off/on.

Same here. Driving in the Texas snow yesterday and the emergency lane assist kicked in about 4 times when nothing was needed I thought I was sliding. Really annoying that we can not permanently turn off this feature
