Emergency Lane Keeping....Keeps resetting
The @GrouseK9 family pop to the grocery store circa 2022. (colorized)
It clarifies your points after you throw in a caveat that a defect is seemingly one of the reasons the system is reacting. This is precisely what people are complaining about and yet, you use it to validate the your argument that the system is operating as it should. That’s some weird logic, wouldn’t you say?
Is this really dissimilar to other safety systems?
Airbags save a couple thousand lives a year and prevent or lessen a lot of injuries.
They also cause some injuries and deaths due to both defects and just the way they work.
No system is perfect. These camera/sensor logic systems are relatively new and mfrs like JLR are first to market. They'll get better, cheaper, and they'll filter down to lower priced vehicles. Roads overall will be safer but there will never be systems that get it right 100% of the time. It's a numbers game like most things in life.
Should you be able to turn it off? Idk. It's a question that will be asked a lot as cars become more autonomous.

@The Insider ELKA should follow audible/visual warnings, correct? Similar to emergency braking assist/collision avoidance. Whereas normal LKA operates silently.
To clarify, ELKA and LKA are two different systems. Emergency Lane Keep Assist (what is shown in the picture) can be manually disabled when your first start the vehicle. It will always reset after the car has been turned off. We can't tell when drivers switch and we can't permanently allow people to disable important safety systems. That's a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Lane Keep Assist is what's accessible on the steering wheel controls and your dashboard menu. This allows you to toggle the system on and off with a simple button press.
If you're experiencing problems with the system it's important to remember that it's a camera based system (located in front of rear view mirror). If the windscreen/windshield is cracked, stone chipped or dirty in this particular area it can cause issues. Also note that sunlight at certain angles during the day can create some system confusion in the system.
If everything appears to be 100% and you system is not responding to your steering wheel controls or operating in an erratic manner it could be the case there is an issue with the camera or calibration. However, in many cases that are escalated we often find that user error or poorly maintained road systems are a key factor.
Hope this helps.

thanks for clarification. I have my brand new defender to be delivered to me soon. But the dealer told me yesterday that LKA can be off on the steering wheel then he can not reactivate LKA by another touch. There is even no warning message nor error message presented. Just can not be reactivated. Any thoughts? HW, SW?
one more point, as pointed out by you. LKA is camera based system please further clarify ACC is camera based system or not. If LKA failed as a result this failure will influence ACC further or not? Is it a safety concern I should pay attention if I take the car? Thanks John
