As I probably mentioned somewhere out here before, the extended warranty I was offered and bought was the 7yr/100k miles from Continental warranty company. I believe only dealers selling new vehicles are able to even offer this particular warranty. This is not endurance, carshield etc. This particular dealer only sells Rovers and Jags, had extensive 'history' working with this warranty company on claims. It was a few thousand with air suspension and a few hundred less without that coverage. Fwiw, I already traded in my 22 and received a pro-rated refund which the dealer actually initiated the refund process after I sent them proof of sale (trade). It was all handled quite smoothly. Unfortunately the mileage you have on there at the time of sale does count against the third party warranty, even if it's actually still under the OEM factory warranty those 20k miles I had on there 'count' against the 100k and there was a fairly large processing fee besides. I also 'lost' a bunch of prepaid scheduled maintenance costs due to one early oil change which they managed to squeeze in before the actual 20k service interval, like at 15k miles. So be careful with prepaid maintenance options unless you're very sure to keep it for a while, none of that stuff is typically pro-rated, Anyway, good luck, just sharing my Defender ownership experience on this topic.

The price quote came from my conversation with the rep on the phone, followed up with an emailed quote.

I have a phone call (VM) and email out to the LR warranty lady. I’m trying to get a copy of their coverage as well as an initial quote before I take delivery next week. I’d like to compare everything at my leisure before hand.

I received a quote through LR for $8k - 7yr/100,000 miles. The Defender is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. There is no way I’m paying 8k. How much have others paid?

I would shop around and would not buy a warranty until the factory warranty was about to expire.

I do not plan to keep a defender more than 11 months until the defender market corrects. Then I will look into a warranty. I will pick up my third defender next week over 13 months and so far have just paid interest on the loan value. It will come to an end at some point and thats when I will look into coverage. My salesman which has been with JLR a long time says we still got 1-3 years of this on the defender maybe longer in the V8 and 5 years on the RR. I am fine with it stopping but until it does I am trading them often.

I have worked my way up to the V8 which I think will retain a high value for a while. If not then I’ll keep it for 4 years max.

I’m not really following regarding your reasoning for trading so often and your salesman’s comment that, ‘we still got 1-3 years of this…’

Arent you taking a significant depreciation hit by buying new and trading-in so often?

I may have to shop around for an extended warranty as you suggested. I was hoping to get it done during the initial deal based on suggestions that the cost tends to go up if done after the fact.

No depreciation at the moment due to the shortages and limited number of vehicles. Most dealers will give you your money back or close on a trade that they can CPO. I bought my D90 for $69k, dealer gave me $69k trade value then sold it for $75k. It’s crazy. Do a quick search for used V8’s most have an asking price of $130k-$150k.

Default Not doing warranty. Lease to sale and then warranty

So I talked with my dealer. When I hit 49900, I’ll go in and have them take vehicle, certify it, buy it and they will charge the 6K to extend through 7yr/100K.

seems the easier way for me to do it and not worry about breakage after warranty ends. Did that with my LR4. Bad experience and big bucks without any coverage.

I assume you spent more than 6K on repairs for the LR4? A lot more?

Indeed. Between 50-60K, the LR4 just had problem after problem. I sunk a good 3500 in one year.

I might not be understanding your plan correctly and I could be wrong and mixing different plans together (I’ve reviewed so many) but IIRC, the LR plan had to be purchased 30 days prior to your factory warranty expiring or before 30,000miles, whichever is first.
