So the LR site and my dealer offers very little information regarding the $4,900 Satin Paint Protection Film. Does anyone here have it from the factory? If so which model and what parts does it cover?
I have an X on order with time to amend the order. From the best I can tell by the configurator, the satin covers the color (in my case Gondwana Stone) but not the gloss black (rocker panels, hood, etc)?
If this is the case, I'll want to put clear PPF on the gloss black front/hood and rockers to protect from stone chips (a common issue here in Arizona) Trying to determine if it is best to have the satin done at the factory with the gloss parts done locally, or just have a local shop do the satin & clear at one time.
I believe you're right, I saw an X Gondwana at some point months ago with factory PPF and the gloss black area on the hood was not covered by it. I'm not sure how confident I'd be having the dealer do the whole thing. The factory job looked very cleanly done fwiw. Good stuff.
I missed the window to add the factory but pleased I went with a local installer that did all the paint and the gloss. My person is a Stek fan so went with his advice - on the wheels, calipers and door handles as you will see.

Ok, let me throw out the noob question... What's the difference between the Satin Paint Protection Film and a color wrap? Besides, the obvious (one is clear and the other has color). Is it a different beast or is it just a way to do a transparent wrap to preserve or matte the color?
Not judging, just genuinely curious. I have no thoughts of protecting my paint, but I could see myself doing a wrap to change the color (if I didn't want to commit to a paint job).

This is way more than you'll ever want to know about it. The Defender wrap is polyurethane based, self-healing, and, similar to Xpel.

I will never color change my cars with a color wrap. It looks cheap & offers zero protection or practicality, well except a change of color.
The paint protection film is a whole different story. It really protects the paint from light to medium chips. Moreover, it's made cleaning much easier especially for darker colors. I have PPF done for all my keepers. I was skeptical about the $4,900 option (would def option out) until I saw one. The install is exceptionally good and you will pay easily more than that if you had planned to PPF the car anyway. I'm a fan of it.
@Johnnycat i am starting to love the matte Pangea look. Thought about ordering Pangea as an option, but now if I were to go with this color, satin is a must!
