Hi I didn’t see anyone in the tire thread go 275/60R20 on the stock 20” wheels.

I saw someone go 55 with out issue. Any opinions on running 275/60 with Falken Wildpeaks AT3’s?

 

Funny you should mention.....I am about ready to pull the trigger on the Falcon Wildpeak and was going to go with the 275/55/20 as I thought they would be a no brainer fit and the 27/60/20 were 50/50 as to fit without mods. Well, I saw these Nitto Ridge Grapplers at 275/60/20 yesterday. I hung around trying to wait for the owner to ask more but no luck. Now I'm going to be on the lookout to grab them.

 

Thanks for replying. I guess it behooves me to compare the dimensions of the wildpeak vs the grappers of similar size.

 

Looks like 32.9 vs 33 for the WildPeaks. I did like the look of the Nittos but I have read the performance on the road is much better on road which is 90% of what I will end up doing. I'd love to know your thoughts and reasons for leaning towards the WildPeaks. Thanks!

 

Yeah I actually considered the Terra Grappler since I had it previously and liked it. Reviews are mixed though.

Use case 85% hwy, 15% off road for overlanding.
im near Tahoe so I needed something rated well in the snow.

Online rep for discount tires, always enjoyed their service and prices, mentioned the Toyo at3, so then I expanded to consider the grapplers, ko2s, and wildpeak, which always had good reviews but I heard were heavy.

I pinged my mechanic and he said hands down wildpeaks, which he has on his truck. He’s up in Tahoe and gets a load of snow. So that sorta sealed the decision for me.

 

I'll chime in. I run 275-60-20 BFG KO2 tires on the stock 20" 5098 wheels - with a 1.5" rod lift. Happy with the setup, specifically the tire size.

Note: Lift Rods. I've taken off the rods for dealer visits, and in access height I do get rubbing. But not in normal height. The only downside I'm seeing w/ the lift rods btw is that offroad height is really stiff / bouncy. But I usually only raise it up to clear an obstacle, not for "normal" trail running - I leave it in normal height for that.

Note on KO2 vs Wildpeak - If I had to do it again, I'd go Wildpeak *over* the KO2's I bought. I have Wildpeaks on 2 other Rovers and like them better. Different vehicles entirely, so hard to apples-to-apples it -- but the KO2 seems to like hydroplaning a bit more, is noisier on road, sounds like I need a wheel bearing replaced at times.

I'd say you're marginal without lift rods and 275/60. Didn't mean to mislead you. I would run 1" or 1.5" rods with 275/60.

The rubbing area = the front part of each front wheel well, on the ribs of the plastic fender liner vents, which are in front of the front wheel and just behind the aux radiator coolers (on a P400). Everywhere else likely is fine.

 

Does that rub in normal mode or access only?

when wheels are straight or lock to lock?

 

Without rods, my 275/60/20 KO2 rubs slightly in access mode over driveway humps or at lock left or right. And maybe a slight bit in the front left wheel well in normal height when wheels all the way cranked. With rods, no rubbing.

There's another option bt stock size and 275/60/20 you might want to consider. Check out what this chap did, he says he only gets slight rubbing in access height in the front - 265/60/20 -
265/60/20 = 32.5"
