Yesterday as I drove home from the office I saw the check engine light turn on but the dashboard showed zero errors, so I figured it was just a blip. Once I got to a stop light however I could feel the engine misfire but again no errors on the dashboard so I checked the app and sure enough there was an error stating I had a faulty fuel management system and to take the care for service asap.
I called the dealership and told them the issue I was having and mentioned the error code I got on the app. The app also stated that if the check engine light was blinking, it would make the defender go into limp mode, and as I headed to the dealership I could feel the defender struggle to run.
This morning I got a text from my advisor letting me know that the tech found fuel injectors 3 and 5 were defective and they had them in stock so they would be replaced under warranty. Picked up the vehicle just before 7 and now it runs like a champ. I’m curious though in my 30 years of driving I’ve never had a faulty fuel injector, let alone 2 failing at exactly the same time. What are the odds of that?
Side note: I have to give props to Sewell in Austin because they had my issue resolved in about 30 hrs. When I read “fuel injectors need to be replaced” I figured it would be at least a week before they arrive but to my surprise they were in stock. Additionally the service tech sent me a video explaining the issue, what he did to diagnose it, how he replaced the parts including other components, checked the other 6 fuel injectors (all passed) and showed me the defective parts. How cool is that!
Side note 2: I saw the amount the dealer will invoice JLR and it was $3114. So happy it’s under warranty (‘22 CE with 31k miles).
Defective fuel injectors. Check engine light which I wasn’t sure if that’s what it was or if that had always been there before.
Two injectors are identified as "bad" by one case of "check engine" warning. Two malfunctioned at the same time!
I am wondering what might caused that. bad fuel? extreme environment condition? power system?

The night before it happened I filled up at a gas station I don’t normally buy fuel from. I was afraid there was water in the gas tbh however as it turned out to be a hardware issue and covered by warranty I’m now sure it wasn’t.
Injectors do die. Normally from stuff in the fuel or corrosion due to water. I kind of have had the habit on cars over 10 years old to send the injectors off to Witchunter's injector, flow matching cleaning service every couple of years. Not to terribly expensive and they do run better afterwards. It did offer improvements on my '97 Defender's V8. Makes you wonder what exactly the fuel filter does.
