I've been looking for this issue to come in forums for months. I had this happened to me 3 or 4 times, the car is only 4000 miles. The first time I took it to the dealership they change the gear selector module and did a software update but that didn't fix the issue. Second time they attribute it to a faulty battery for the hybrid system, so they changed it, that didn't fix the issue either. Last time this issue came up the car ended up undrivable with a grinding transmission and the engine almost stalling. It felt like it was stuck in between 2 gears, it had to be towed to the dealership. Tip, you should learn how to disengage the transmission, it's under the hood. That time they only did a software update after having the car for over a month. I got into an argument with the service manager because they didn't even check the fluid for metal shavings/debris since it was not an electric problem anymore but a mechanical one. After that the car didn't feel right, it felt underpowered or like if something was holding it back. It's been at the dealership since them, it's been 2 weeks. At this point it's already a lemon and they offered me my money back but couldn't give me a new car so it's useless.

I attached a video which provides an overview to the revolutionary and complicated ZF8 transmission within our new Defenders.

By your description, it seems that possibly the gear grinding noises you heard may have also damaged the clutches/brakes within the ZF8 transmission to cause it to "hang-up" and not provide the motive power expected.

I would consider taking the refund. If not, then maybe expect to have to insist that a new transmission be installed?

Just thoughts from the details you shared ......

Default Take the refund

Im an attorney who practices Lemon Law and Breach of Warranty law, but this is not legal advice.

If youre vehicle is defective and the manufacturer offers to re-purchase it and you refuse, its hard to sue them later. Most Lemon/warranty statutes say: the vehicle was defective and the manufacturer refused to buy it back or replace it.

JLR doesnt have stock to replace, so a buy back is all they can offer to cure the defect.

Id get a consult with a lemon law attorney if I were you.

Just some information, not legal advice.

Default Ranger rover evoque 2016

I have had my car 2.5 years and does very similar thing; its done ti maybe 15 to 20 times now. . If Im going higher speeds and then slow down for a tool booth or exit and then go to speed back up it stalls, the D (driver know) blinks and it doesnt go. I keep pushing the gas bt its like its not getting any .only lasts 5 to 7 seconds or so and then goes . It put me in quite a dangerous position on the highway when I had to slow for an object and then wld not go maybe 15 seconds and cars were swerving around me. I took it to the shop first time and they said prob bad gas and then abt 18 months or so later I took to another shop they had it for abt 4 days changed me $150 and said they didnt know what it was .

Exclamation Same Issue-Any Resolution

I am having this same issue on my 2017 F-Pace (113k miles). It happens randomly. Technician at dealership has never been able to replicate/experience the issue. At first recommended a software update. Still happened. They weren't sure of what the issue was so they replaced the transmission module gear shift. Drove it for a week or so and then the issue reappeared. One night it happened almost every time I stopped. Now it's been fine for past few days. I did let them know that the issue is back. Haven't heard back yet. I'd like to take it back in for service and let them know what it may be. Hopefully someone in this forum has an answer. Thanks!
