I looked at the A frame Protection kit installation instructions and was surprised to see that this accessory appears to be solely for changing the look of the front end (and maybe protecting the paint a bit (?) . It does not contain the metal pedestrian protection bar. It just bolts a couple of layers of plastic parts onto the stock front end.

It is the same for the expedition protection kit, excepting that the front undershield kit part contains its regular impact metal strength increases.

Seems to be a chunk of change for no added function? But, I understand and agree a person should like the look of their vehicle or be neutral on the topic entirely (my status regarding all currently available JLR products).

To each his own. Enjoy ! Enjoy !

My understanding is that this offering is to meet EU pedestrian safety standards (also the reason for the plastic or optional metal under tray below the bumper).

US and Australian rules are quite different, and vehicles used outside cities in Oz require front end protection very regularly which is why the tubular front bumper is available there at launch time.

I'd expect a lot of other options to become available in the next few years, but they won't meet EU or TUV standards for pedestrian safety so may not be available in Europe (who knows what the UK is doing with these standards right now?).

Personally I'm waiting for an ARB option to be developed, although I am moderately concerned about pedestrian safety when running an off-road roo bar. The pre-runner bumpers I see here in the US seem to be really bad in that regard - guaranteeing that anyone you hit goes under the vehicle.

It's not compatible with the X due to adaptive cruise?

There is a another part number required for the X, you have to order a part and have it painted to the glossy black I believe
