I was advised the installation of the center console fridge must happen at the factory. If anyone knows otherwise please advise.
That is absolutely the case. The only time a dealer is likely to install a built-in refrigerator is when they have to replace a defective one.

It can be installed post-production if you can order it—obviously it’s a different part number than the one your dealer installed 🤨. I’m pretty sure the built-in version has the same part number as the one you find in all late model Range Rovers.

Notwithstanding the price, I think, what you have there, actually looks pretty good. Can you reach the cooler from the front seat very easily?

I’m still pretty bummed that I didn’t get the refrigerator in my Defender. I also find it funny that someone mentioned that they never use the built-in version. Having owned an RRS for many years that had one, I find that I never use the unrefrigerated storage box in my new Land Rover. It’s been empty ever since I picked the car up in June. 😀

Can you you turn it off if you wanted?

Someone should take a thermometer and see how cold this thing gets lol.

By food industry standards, anything below 40 Fahrenheit is safe for refrigeration for longer than 2 hours. Obviously it doesn't run when the car is off, but good benchmark.

You can turn off the center console refrigerator. Basically has high/low/off setting. Not sure on the temps, but on the night setting it gets pretty cold.

Looks good to me. Can you reach it from the front? And is it only designed for drinks or can it be sued to store food etc? How much does it hold? I opted to not get the inbuilt fridge because it was so small and reduced usable storage space. The option you have is a good substitute given my wife and I don’t have young kids to lug around.

Should have specified, can you set it to default off?

Yes. Whatever your last setting was is your default when turning the car back on. If you have it switched off it’ll remain off until you select the high/low cold setting.

Good to know. I can see limited usage of a fridge in your console versus storing **** in there for everyday use. Easiest place to store commonly used items IMO.

I have a 2021 D90 First Edition with the center jump seat. I plan to swap it for a center console and will retrofit the fridge if the second hand console doesn’t have it.

I optioned the refrigerator in my Defender. In fact, it was high on the list of must haves for me. While I don’t use it everyday, I do use it for longer drives, especially in the summer and it’s really great to have.

According to the manual the two modes it has are “fast cooling” mode (two lights illuminated) and “normal” mode (one light illuminated). So it’s not actually high or low. The manual states the temperature reaches approximately 40 deg F. and once it gets there, it automatically switches to normal mode.
