This is excellent! Thanks for taking the time and having the talent for this. I'm going to do the same as soon as i figure out what a butane hot knife is
Thank you!
Glad I could contribute.
This is what I got…originally so I could solder without needing to be plugged in.
I only used the hot knife part to cut 550 cord and nylon straps because it would cut and seal at the same time. Glad it worked for this mod.
They offer a “pencil” style version as well. I chose the one above because with the plastic base that comes in the kit, it will stand on its own. It also holds a bit more fuel.
One thing I have noted about mine is that I do have a bit water/mositure build up between the mat and the floor, but I don't tend to drag water/snow into the car with me in this dry winter. I wonder if this moisture is condensing in-between due to humidty getting trapped rather than leaking through those holes. Just a thought.
I just bought the Tuxmat too for my 90 and I didn't like either OEM mats (Rubber and Carpet):
• Rubber Mats: Gets dirty very easily, hard to clean, super heavy. Didn't like 3 piece overlapping design in the rear seats (It looks like mats on the office lobby in rainy day).
• Carpet Mats: Very low quality and not plush like other luxury brands. Coverage is quite small.
Taxmats were quite light, looks like they belong to luxury off-roader car, covers much better floors and side walls. Those front pins were a couple of MM off and doesn't quite click all the way but I think overall, I like it more than OEM mats and trying to test out a week or two as they have 30-days money back guarantee.
Big fan of my TuxMats. Best option for replacement of the OEMs. Having tried many competitors brands over the years, TuxMats quality, fit and comfort exceeded my expectations.
I've always had WeatherTech mats in my vehicles. Great quality, US-made, incredibly durable, and easy to clean. I didn't bother with floor mats in my Defender, as the plastic floors are super easy to clean and made of the same rubbery plastic as the WeatehrTech mats.
Those look like the chilewich mats that Rivian uses. They're great looking mats! But make sure you get them with a rubber backing as water falls right through the woven texture and then just sits there. I guess it's not as big of a deal on the Defender since there's no carpet to soak/stain, but it's still nice for the mat to catch the water.
