Default Front tow hook

In 2023 I bought a 110X and 90X for two different locations from two different dealers.

Both are great and as you know, the X’s are pretty fully loaded. Neither, however have the front undershield skid plate exposing the front tow hook.

I have some concerns – the recovery process is quite onerous. My use is on-road and some off-road on gravel/forest paths (no true off-roading so shield protection is not really a big issue). Concern is limited to on-road situations – vehicle failure, accident, etc.

Do I need (or should I have) the front tow hook exposed? I could cut an access hole in the existing front undersheild, install the LR or equivalent front skid plate, or just leave it as is. Thoughts please. Is there any noise or driving issue with the tow hook exposed?

Zero issues with mine exposed, though not sure what sort of issues you are imagining.

And I can't hear any wind noise. Granted, the wind noise from my oem roof-rack would drown out anything comming from underneath the front hood.

(finally, an excuse to post a snow pic. Hook is visible, so it's relevant, heh heh.)

Noise is probably the only issue, particularly with a hole in the OEM plastic (vibration). Thanks

Thanks. Did a search but obviously didn’t search the right words. Again thanks.

I installed one of the aftermarket front skid plates on my 110. Took less than an hour, looks great, and no difference in noise. PowerfulUK has a good vid on YouTube on the install.

I had them install the front skid plate to expose the toe loop. Zero noise.

I planned on getting a front skid plate and my dealer wanted $3k in labor, and since I'm cheap, I took a sawzall to the bumper cover to expose the tow hook and wrapped some door edge trim around the edges to make it look nice. I think it actually turned out quite well! No noise whatsoever.

This is the trim I used:
