GAP ID4 and Y2026?
Hello. First post.
I am not an owner (but SO is) but am hoping to get on board this year.
i saw on “another forum” that LR will be preventing 2026+ from using the GAP tool.
has anyone else heard/seen anything about this rumor (or fact)?

Same tool, updated firmware. Works perfectly on 2026 now.
JLR has apparently introduced a new protocol for 2026 Defender. Basically it's a security protocol that requires the factory Topix diagnostic software to connect to the vehicle. This will only prevent coding and programming from happening with aftermarket tools. This has already been confirmed in Europe that the only method of doing any of the CCF editing that concurrently be done with the gap tool, will only be able to be performed utilizing factory tools. As far as I know, the gap tool should still be able to perform diagnostics as on previous models. It is possible that in time, gap and others may decide to invest in a way to bypass this new security protocol. It looks to be a pretty involved security handshake protocol to allow for coding and programming changes.

I did see that. It will be interesting to see when more 26 models come out if this is just a rumor, or a distinct production break month.
Can you explain what timeline you are talking about and where you're getting the information? I ask because two months ago, what you said was correct, the GAP couldn't code the CCF, but then they worked on it, changed the firmware, and now it works fine.
I think it is important to clarify if what you are talking about is just the original old info or something now actually new info - again.

If what "it a rumor"? ?Last fall it was correct, GAP couldn't change CCF, but that was then, not now.
