I would like to have a gas can mount attached to my spare tire carrier which would swing out of the way when opening the rear door. Anyone know of any?
Thank you GrouseK9! This is exactly what I want. Seldom am I off road far enough to be concerned about gas but I have trips in Colorado and Utah coming up and need to open the back door frequently to let my dog out. I didn't want a permanent installation so this is perfect.
I decided on this mount, I have Jerry cans. The hinges on the door appear to be robust. I don’t have garage clearance to add a rack on top, and don’t really want anything on the side. After each trip I’ll be removing it for daily driving. Thanks for the input.

This one from MORyde mounts to the wheel itself so should work fine on a Defender. No affiliation, but I used their fender-mount Jerry-can holders for five years on a JK and they are the boss. No drilling or alterations to the Jeep required at all.
@umbertob - Don't have that set up, but I imagine the process would be:
- Take off cans
- Unstrap mounting system
- Remove Spare
- Change tire
- Put Spare back on back of Defender
- Strap mounting system to deflated tire, synching up tightly
- Put on cans
Is the concern that the deflated tire couldn't handle the strap? Not getting the part that would be a challenge. Me? I'm so pissed off whenever I change a tire I usually toss it in the back of my truck/trunk and flail in all the jacks, wrenches, bits & parts. After I cool down and have the tire fixed, I try to organize it all back in. Usually with less profanity involved the second time. I imagine this being a lot of the same. Other than the added PITA of a deflated tire that I now need to synch tightly because it wants to be deflated. But, I suspect a deflated tire would handle it or the Jeep community would have abandoned this approach long ago.
