I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new 90 S Defender this week or next. I am considering having the dealer add the gear carrier to my vehicle. My question is how much does it block visibility?

While both the side box, and ladder in my case, are visible in the side mirrors - there's no negative impact from my experience. Overall max width is still the side mirrors - not the gear box nor ladder. Frankly I was surprised it was only a day or so after first driving it and both elements were essentially forgotten. If possible, it's worth taking a rig for a test drive that has the side box installed. The used 110 we test drove had the roof rack, ladder, sidebar, and it went a long way to soothing the decision to add them to our 110 order.

 

I've had the lunchbox since day 1 so I can't compare, but I have never once felt that it got in my way.
