Default Having hard time fitting spare tire cover back onto the spare

Hi all

I recently swapped out my factory 19" with factory 18" steelies including the spare.

Now I want to put the spare cover back onto the 18" and I am having a hard time doing so as the rubber is not as pliable and stretchy as before when it was new.

Any tips?

Would using a blow dryer to heat and soften up the rubber work?

Thanks!

I have trouble getting mine off.. I'm thinking of having a zipper installed at the bottom.

Not sure where you live but I find if I put the cover in the sun for an hour or so it warms it up and makes it more pliable. Don't wait until it gets too cold out...

Pop it in the oven for a bit. Low temp and it will make it more pliable I'd imagine. Better yet, chuck it in the trash and let the world see the beauty of the steelies.

I am going to try with the blow dryer since I have the 110V plug in the back as part of the off road pack and see if it works. If not, then I will just run the spare naked as you suggested.

Thanks all.

Heat will work. I put mine in the driveway all day and at about 5pm it went on easily. The day before I couldn't get that think to even think about going on.

Not sure did you already try but blow dryer (or heat gun) will greatly exceed the wattage of the 110V plug in the trunk which is only few hundred watts (if I do not remember completely wrong).
