Default Headlight upgrade

Hi.

Thank you for allowing me to participate and for dedicating your time to reading this post. We recently purchased a low miles 2023 S model. The vehicle is beautiful and in really good shape. However, the family was a little demoralized over the fact that the headlights don't have the nice looking DRL rounded shape. So thinking that it would be sort of plug and play (should have known better) I purchased two almost new headlights out of Ebay. The part numbers that I got are 1184.001.0020 and 1184.002.0020.

Apparently there is some programming that needs to be done to fit these successfully. I have been trying to find info about this but could not find any. Can someone provide any guidance with regards to if this can be done and how to do it?

Thank you in advance.

Santiago

You will need either a GAP tool or someone with access to JLR's Pathfinder software in order to change the CCF files to enable the Premium LED headlights.

Thank you!!! I have watched those videos and was left hoping for the third part of them. It seems that the headlights that I purchased are the Matrix model, not the Premium. As a matter of fact, apparently all of the headlights offered in Ebay are Matrix judging by the part numbers shown in the pictures.

I do own an ID GAP tool. Wondering if anyone has done the change and knows what parameters need to be changed...

Thanks again for your reply.

So far I have not found clear instructions on how to make the Matrix headlights work on S trim Defenders. Furthermore, my car does not have air ride so not sure what that would do to the self leveling function of the Matrix.

Yesterday I ended up returning the headlights that I had purchased. They were the Matrix model. I was hoping to get a set of Premiums but it seems that all the ones for sale on Ebay are Matrixs.

Santiago,

I feel your frustration. The halo rings were a selling point for the premium headlights when I ordered my Defender (and was a $600 option at the time).

At this point you can try reaching out to junkyards such as Co-part to see if any are available. If they are, I’m sure they will be pricey. Also check Facebook marketplace. You might get lucky.

A third option would be to check Ali Express. Not all the Chinese products are junk. Do a little research and you may find a vendor that is reputable and can provide support to make sure your lights are activated.

Good luck and welcome to the Defender “family”.

Thank you!!!! I appreciate your response.

Yes, I am currently turning every stone to attempt to find the Premium LEDs. Haven’t had much luck… Hahahahaha. To the point where I have questioned myself on whether I am looking at the right numbers… Basically I am searching for L8B2 13006 BB and L8B2 13005 BB. But all the units that I am coming across are L8B2 13W029 FH and L8B2 13W030 FF….

Will keep searching!!! Thank you again!

The LED Premium and Matrix LED are two different lights, correct? I have a 2026 on order and this year the headlights are changed. I can only get LED premium in the USA, I just wanted to make sure they're not the same light and I could buy a GAP Tool to activate the Matrix tech.

Correct - while they physically look the same, they are not the same and have different internals. For the 26MY, the Defender gets a new headlight design, and I'd assume they'll still be different, even though Matrix lights are now legal in the US.
