Default Heated Windshield - Automatic Issues

MY 2023.5 Defender 110X with Cold Weather Package, HUD and Solar Attenuating Windshield. Pivi Pro has most current (NOV 2022) update/

I have my climate control selected to automatically turn on the heated windshield and rear window defroster. In cold weather, the rear always comes on when I start the car, but the front has automatically turned on once when light snow covered the glass. The front windshield works when manually turned but turns off sooner than the rear.

Question: does the front windshield need to have ice or snow on it to automatically activate? Is there a reset that I should do, such as toggle the Pivi-Pro selector along with other settings or order of operations?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Don't think this is correct. Mine both come on when it's around freezing, even if I don't really need them on (ie it's dry and the car is in the cold garage). I believe it's temperature dependent, not dependent on the rain/light sensors in other words.

I'm sure you've done this but pls double check your settings (it's something like settings -- climate app (?) -- auto heated windshield).

Thanks Nashvegas for your response, it tells me that what I am experiencing may not be common.

We have had some cold weather this week and I am finding the rear window will automatically turn on at or below 35 degrees Fahrenheit; however, the front windshield heater will automatically come on only when the temperature is below 25 degrees Fahrenheit.

Does anyone know what the activation temperature should be, i.e. when should the front and rear turn on automatically? Is there a way to adjust the automatic activation temperatures for the front windshield and/or rear window heaters (maybe a technician setting control not available to the owner)?

Hmm. Those temp differences (35 rear / 25 front ... ish) is different behavior from my 2020. Mine both come on simultaneously. When I look down, both the front and rear yellow lights are on (ie I've yet to see one or the other come on without the other upon a cold morning start).

Also I think the lowest temp we've had here is around 32-33 in Portland this year, so mine must come on in the mid 30's... 35-36 degrees as the trigger temp for auto on seems about right. I will say, this is the same thing my old L494 sport did for years. Both front and rear came on mid 30's.

Thank you NashVegas. & Mantis (& others in this thread)
I thought I was seeing things when I'd start up and see the Front and/or Rear heat window icons activate on the centre console... I haven't re-read that section of the user manual but will give that another hard look. At least I know my suspicion as to outside temp appears valid - mine too is in an attached (& batt insulated) garaged and it's odd I see the heated icons appear for the rear window but not the front and temps are above freezing. I didn't see anything in the PiviPro display having looked today but I'll double check that too.

I actually think though that what you are describing might be an "improvement"... ie I often have looked down and noticed the front windshield / rear window heaters on... and I'm like, this is a waste of electricity / unneeded drain on the electrical system, because the car is dry and in the garage. So... anyway.

It *would* make sense to have the window in the front only go in if the snow/rain/light sensor detects stuff on the window. But, def not how mine works.

I’ve found that the heated windshield makes the snow/ice worse.
How? It only runs for a short time. (iGuide says “deactivates after a timed period”).
When it shuts off, all the snow/slush/water refreezes on the windshield and blocks visibility. Then I have to resort to an ice-scraper.
I’ve tried turning the heat back on, but again, it shuts off.
Unless I’m missing something?

So I was wrong. Went to a thing this morning, Defender sat outside about 3 hours in the 32 degree weather. Upon startup I looked down and only rear heater was on...

On my initial startup this morning (around same temperature, car not in garage outside in driveway), both came on.

So yeah... who knows what the actual logic is !

When I got in my 90 yesterday, there was a little over 1" of snow on the truck. It had been in the parking lot for about 2 hours. The outside temps were around 25F. Only the rear came on automatically. I didn't understand this either. I've only had it for a week or so, but I'll monitor and try to determine the logic.
