How much wind noise is normal for the Defender 110?
Hey everyone - just picked up my new Defender 110. I love the car overall - great build quality and handles great. Since I'm new to the Land Rover family (my previous car of 7 years was a 911), I was wondering how much wind noise/turbulence is normal to hear in the cabin at highway speeds of 60+ MPH. I do not have roof rail attachments installed (just the standard rails that come with the car). I am hearing wind buffeting that I assume is coming from the exterior tire but it's hard to pinpoint the exact location. I would say that it's not super load but definitely noticable. If it's supposed to be super quiet in the cabin at all times I'll definitely get it checked out by the dealer. Thanks!
I guess this is subjective but my 130 is probably one of the quietest vehicles I've ever driven. It has a relatively upright windshield so it may seem louder if you're used to aerodynamic shape of a Porsche.
Ha yeah I just used the Apple sound app to measure the "loudness" of the cabin during highway driving (60-80 mph). It came in around 63-65 dB. I assume that's what most other people are getting. It's honestly not too loud it's just noticable and I just wanted to make sure it's normal but it sounds like it's just simple physics - air hitting the windshield and making noise.
One of the things I was thinking about before I bought the 75th anniversary edition was the fabric roof. During the purchase process I never opened it, or, for whatever strange reason, looked at it thought about it, etc….
I don’t know why. I drove it home 60 miles…sat on the couch for a bit and went….holy sh** ! So you can guess my point. It wasn’t loud at all, I actually remember how quiet it was averaging around 65-75mph.
