JLR fires McGovern
Many many times, I loudly regretted the disappearance of the Land Rover badge, for reasons that have been stated in this thread already. MY26 and later Defenders do look poor with their blank squares, bringing them closer to their chinese copies. The application of a revived 1991 Mazda Logo as shown below, called "Octa", also didn't cure it. I even baught a used MY23.5 Defender rather than a later one to have all badges where they belong to. As Gerry is the architect of the "house of brands", this unfortunate chapter hopefully is going with him.
I also always loved the idea that such different cars like a Range Rover and a Defender are parts of the same brand and meet at Land Rover events - isnt't that a great example aof diversity and inclusion? Whatsoever, I don't want to get limited to just one model of the whole range, when meeting with other Land Rover enthusiasts - I really love the whole range

Don't know if he was behind the elimination of the Green Oval, but I hope it makes a return going forward.
I don't know about you guys, but I've always proudly said I drive a Land Rover when asked.
I rarely, if ever, identified the model.
The '25 Defenders look naked without the Oval badge.

McGovern might have believed himself to be untouchable.
Well the rumors may not be true that he was fired.. Here's an updated article and JLR is denying they fired him

Having worked for decades in and with large multinational corporations, here's what I suspect happened. Mr Balaji comes in swinging his new broom and wants to make wholesale changes. Mr McGovern has either already been identified as a scapegoat or puts up some resistance to the proposed changes, and Mr. Balaji fires him in a fit of pique.
People close to Mr. Balaji leak the firing to Autocar India to show how tough and decisive and leaderly Mr. Balaji is.
Only later does someone in JLR HR point out that Mr. McGovern has an ironclad contract with vastly expensive buyout clauses in it, while at the same time pointing out that employers in the UK have to follow very strict rules when dismissing someone (see Mr. Horner at RBR, for instance, and his $80-100,000,000 payout). Suddenly Mr. Balaji looks like an insecure hothead who shoots before aiming and now corporate is frantically backpedalling to avoid a huge wrongful dismissal case in British courts. Remember, Mr. McGovern is 69 years old so he is in a protected class under UK employment law. He's also wealthy and well-connected which are even more protected classes in the UK.

I bet you’re spot on. At the same time billionaires in India do not give a rats ***.
The Intercooler (British) car podcast had a good take on all of this in their recent episode. One of the hosts (Andrew I believe) went into JLR HQ for a look and catch up on new Jag concept car on Friday of last week. The JLR people told their group that they could ask any questions about anything but nothing about GERRY MCGOVERN. Wink wink.
There is also an issue of him working on the side with Norton Motorcycles that may have violated his exclusivity to JLR.
So it’s with the lawyers. Who will clean it up.
