JLR Spec Oil - Where/What Did you Buy?
#31
The key is to look at the EU Liqui-Moly website. The approach works equally well for the D110, D90, P300 and P400.
---------------------------------
I suspect what is happening is that the JLR N.A. is waiting on Castrol to qualify their 21K Jaguar / Land Rover STJLR.03.5006 spec. oil -- so they can begin converting over the dealers out of their N.J.? refinery.
The Germany supplier is faster than the U.S. one, it appears. Here is what came up on the EU website for Liqui-Moly for the P400 -- approved for the Future 21K Jaguar / Land Rover STJLR.03.5006 spec:
Articlenumber: 21410
For gasoline and diesel vehicles. Specially developed for the requirements of BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Opel and other manufacturers.WHERE TO BUY

Well, I'm stoked that we have an option now to buy something that has the new rating.
I'm gonna let them change the oil and rotate the tires this time cause I'm feeling as lazy as I can. But in the future if we still can't get the EC5 Castrol, then I'll just go with the Liqui Moly.
Hell, I believe the Liqui Moly makes oils that are suitable for both of our Moto Guzzis and since I'm out of warranty on the Wrangler I could always change to LM for that too.
Ideally I would use one brand across the whole shop if I could. Would save my shelves from looking like a parts store and one-stop shopping has some appeal to me.
No matter, I'm glad we've got an option!

The other advantage of Liqui Moly's Top Tec 6600 is that, since it's also approved and recommended for use in a large number of popular European vehicles (Mini, BMW, Mercedes), it is likely to be more widely available - and cheaper - than the one-trick pony Special Tec LR in the future. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/0w-20-top-tec-6600-engine-oil-5-liters-liqui-moly-lm22046#fitment

I called Liqui Moly directly and they told me they do sell some products on Amazon but that there are other sellers there who have grey-market versions. Similar to other consumer products, they can be sourced cheaper in another country so they get brought over outside of the legitimate distribution channel.
He gave me the part number for the US version of Top Tec 6600 (JLR 5006 spec).
1 liter - 22044
5 liters - 22046
Even if the rest of the bottle looks exactly the same, if it doesn't have that part number on it, it was not intended to be sold in the US and should be considered sketchy.

And this new one, also by Liqui Moly, is approved for the newer standard STJLR.03.5006. I might switch to that one when I run out of Special Tec LR, on the basis that this one's a bit cheaper.
Liqui Moly 22046 Top Tec 6600 SAE 0W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil, 5 Liter
Everything looked good -- the part number, the NEW 21K mile specification, all the small print, etc.The oil was purchased from Amazon and shipped by Amazon.
Enjoy !!

When I checked the website I found a number in the greater Philadelphia area, plus US online retailers.
I believe Napa has been a distributor for some time.

I posted a link from a Liqui Moly authorized online dealer earlier in the thread. They appear to cater to the BMW crowd, and that's probably why their prices are actually lower than Amazon on the 5-liter Top Tec 6600. They'll ship for free with a minimum order of $50 (2 jugs, which is what we need for an oil change):
