So is the oil to use for the P400? Seems like every model of Range Rover, Small Rover, LR4 are listed but not the Defender P400 or P300

Fancy Oil

As mentioned above, don't rely on model listings as they are often inaccurate or incomplete, manufacturers need time to catch up and newer models may take months or years to be added to a database. Look for synthetic 0W-20 oil specifications to meet or exceed the following JLR standards:

STJLR.51.5122
STJLR.03.5006

The former is the original specification that the Defender was launched with, still used by dealers for routine oil changes. The latter is the newer specification, and harder to find currently. Both specifications are suitable for P400 and P300 engines and your dealer can't ding you for using either spec (for warranty related claims) should you prefer to do your own oil and filter changes. Currently, Castrol, Liqui Moly, Motul and Ravenol make oils approved under either of those two specifications.

Thanks for the clarification. From reading the thread I thought the 5122 was the newer spec not the 5006. So it's the other way around. Get on top and don't be special. I'm 500miles into my engine's life so I guess it's a problem for next year me. I need to learn to read betterer.

I just went to a local NAPA Auto Parts store and they were very helpful, they searched their local and national warehouses and distribution centers and even other retail NAPA stores, zero availability on Liqui Moly Top Tec 6600 0W-20 JLR spec 5122 or 5006 in part numbers for 1 liter #22044 or 5 liters #22046

They reached out to Liqui Moly direct and are awaiting an answer

But there are two other US sources posted in this thread, so not a showstopper.

Yeah I know, but I like Napa (called on their corporate office a few times when I was with Chilton) and I like having a local brick and mortar with which to do business.

But like you said, not a showstopper at all.

@ Kevm and Muppetry,

Hi, Without reading back through every post, I assume Amazon was one of the two other sources for Top Tec 6600, what was the other source (in the US)? Also, has it been confirmed with utmost certainty that the Amazon source is legit Liqui Moly ?

Thanks very much

I don't think there is every going to be "utmost certainty", but the Amazon products certainly look legit.
