Default Late 2021 Purchasing tips?

Hi all,
So as you guys/gals already know it's a pretty crazy market right now, and I'm in the thick of it looking for a new Defender with a trade-in. My experience so far has been as expected, went to a dealership and told me they are literally not even taking any website build orders, and any Defender that arrives is sold the same day. What bugs me is that they're selling the new Defenders with a $10k markup from the sticker price. Is that even normal or is this dealership smoking something? There's a new X variant one arriving today, sticker is $87k and they're selling it for $98k with no possibility of haggling.
Has anyone purchased a new one within the last few months off a dealership lot? Any tips greatly appreciated. I wanted to put in a build order through the website but I was really surprised when they told me they are not accepting any new build orders.

Unfortunately, it really depends on the region but this does seem to be the norm. I’m leasing a 110 through a broker who got me one at sticker. I visited a dealer about 20 min from me to see what they had on the lot and they essentially had my specd 110 for roughly $15k over sticker

I’m in NJ btw.

Honestly, I'd just go buy something else a lot less desirable instead if you're expecting a deal below sticker. You could try showing up at a slow time at a dealer with in-stock inventory -- maybe wait until the very end of December or the first couple days of January. You could also just scout CarGurus and travel if you can find something you like -- i definitely see some listings at sticker price for Defenders that have been on the lot for 20 something days.

Supply is really dry now and don't see the end of it really. I'm personal friend of a dealer's general sales manager. He told me literally there are less Defenders incoming than his fingers for the next 6 months or longer. Crazy time we are in. Good luck with your search.

My recommendation is to work with a broker. You may end up paying them $5-700 as a one-time fee, but they’ll save you thousands and get you msrp.
