Default Leather Seat Failing

Has anyone had any issue with their leather seats? I keep my seats conditioned and the car is kept in the garage but the leather is already wearing through after 30k miles.

Common issue with any vehicle with larger side bolsters. Using the exit entry function of the seats helps. Short legs add to the issue. It will be interesting to see if Land Rover will cover replacement or not. Let us know what they say.

Excuse my ignorance but can you speak on the exit function of the seat? I'm unaware of this setting.

Seats move down and back when you shut off the car. And up and to a set position when you start the car. Turn the **** under the steering wheel to auto.

Land Rover Defender entry and exit mode.

Unfortunately my 90 only has the recline as a power function. Everything else is manual.

Yes. Common with side bolsters, especially with light colors. You might want to try a different technique when entering/leaving the car to avoid getting worse. On a related note, the upgraded Windsor leather seems to hold much better than the grained leather. Might be an added cost in the beginning, but IMO pays off in the long run.

That's really premature for 30K unless there are extenuating circumstances (big people, rough work clothes, toolbelts etc,) All automotive leather is painted. The "paint" has been worn away. Prevention is the key. To prevent this certain protective synthetic leather coatings can be used. I use a protectant called Colourlock Leather Shield just for this purpose.
If this were my car I'd do the following:
  • Repair the worn area.
  • Use an appropriate protectant
  • Be a bit more careful entering and exiting
Colourlock has many leather products (no affiliation) including dye for repairs. Link here => Colourlock Leather Products

MattF is correct. Focused exit and entry. Get it repair and move forward. Maybe covered under warranty….. try and let us know what they say.
