Lexus GX Over Trail

Lexus GX Over Trail
I've been looking at ND now for a few years. My holdouts options are 18" rims, beefy tires, larger wheel arches, and a solid roof (no panoramic window). As if Lexus has been on this site all along listing to ND gripes, the new GX Over Trail will ONLY, ONLY, ONLY, be offered with a solid roof, 18" rims, and beefy tires. The 6cyl engine is big-time improved (over the prior model) in terms of torque and hp. The GX is arriving by January and I will surely go test one out. I'm also going to test out the new Grenadier. I love ND, but the lack of customization is a real drawback. With the new GX, if you want big rims you can buy them. But if you don't, that's fine too. Same for the solid roof - if you want glass, pay for it and they put it on there. But JLR seems so busy with orders they can't custom a build for basic features. Anyone else looking at either the GX Over Trail or the Grenadier?

This: "I'm sure I'm a minority of buyers, but the GX Overtrail is really tuned to attract folks like me. And for $80k buyers, why not?"
I have a very high tolerance to ignore crap after crap in forums. My thought process is: people write what they want and you choose to read or ignore it.
Man, in your case I have to make an exception and ask: please, for the love of God, just go ahead and put your deposit on a GX Overtrail and drop the act.
Better yet, join the GX Forum and praise all its glory there, instead of this continued whining here.

I totally agree, and I also suspect it's not so easy. The # of Wranglers out my way suggests that 18" rims and large sidewall tires are quite popular. I totally get that many love the larger rims, and for highway driving, they are probably spectacular. But those buyers can also look at RRs and Porsche. If JLR wanted to make ND as off road ready as possible, straight from the factory, and it was simple to do, it would be for sale today. But it's not, suggesting that the engineering may not be so simple. Lexus has the advantage of already having figured it out: the LC was sold in the US with 18" rims. If Toyota can figure out how to put 18" rims on a family adventure SUV, I'm sure JLR will eventually do the same. But given the ND demand must be so spectacular, JLR may not be looking to increase sales by offering more customization options. As ND settles into the market, JLR may revisit ways to increase sales, and surely things like more off road ready tire & rim combos would be a consideration. The BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO2 Tires, for example, don't fit 19" rims. They will fit an 18" or a 20". Before you go for the 20" rim, you're going to lose the sidewall - the entire point of the small rim.

It's definitely interesting. The p400 brakes are F:14.2" R:13.8" and the P300 is F:13.7" R:12.8" while the GX overtrail is F:13.4" R:12.6".
I'm a little surprised, I guess I don't know why, but the GX getting 15mpg city with a 10 speed. I guess it's a solid 500 pounds heavier than the defender p400 110.
Those approach/break over/departure angles... *Tugs on shirt collar*

I'll certainly test drive it as it's just one issue after another on our 2023 Defender. Now XM radio presets are missing despite a message that all 20 XM presets are full if you select the gold preset star. Dealer spent 3 days trying to fix it and even had some tech from JLR try to fix it remotely. Ordered some ICCM module to see if that fixes the issue. Plus I'm still disappointed I could not order features our 2021 has like the 700 watt sound and clear view mirror. We'll keep the 2021 but I'll part ways with the 2023 if I like something else better.

I took a look at it......meh
Looks fairly uninspired to me and sort of reminds me of how they are doing "modern remakes" of movies from not so long ago and they always seem to miss the mark. I suspect that there will be plenty of manufactures who will be coming out with their own Defender type option and they will be offered at various price points and such in hopes to gain some of the market share, but at the end of the day the Defender still (in my opinion) trumps them all.
