In my experience with other fully-independent suspension rigs, you can add all of the long travel you want, but you're going to run into CV angle bind eventually. When you hear it happening at full droop, you will cringe because you know that its $$$ to replace.

Of course then you could do a diff-drop kit - which to me seems counter-productive. You want the long travel to get higher off the ground. If you have to drop the diffs to make that happen, then whats the point?

@sarek Ill give you guys a call tomorrow. I dont really care about making them stick out or anything aesthetic I really just want a 18 inch rim and bigger sidewalls if 34 or 35 is a toss up then 35 it is! I really would like to avoid lift rods for the harshness you stated. Im on air suspension so maybe we could adjust it an inch with the gap tool? Im fine with trimming the front bumper and relocating the coolers I just really dont want to start cutting all that metal at the back of the front well. Thank you for all the replies.

You get the same slight increase in harshness whether you use lift rods or the adjustment with the gap tool, 1”, 1.5”, etc. BTW. It does the same thing.

I have run 1.5” lift rods for 4 years and it is perfectly fine in normal height. It gets bouncy in offroad and extended height (but I only use those offroad, when clearance is an issue).

Yeah thats what I figured. Honestly I will probably stay in normal height until I hit obstacles as the bigger tires will work well in normal height.

The subframes are the same as all production models so the mounting location of the suspension arms is not changed. The arm lengths are not changed especially the rear since the lower control arms are all the same. Track width is 2.7 inches wider as per Internet info, so 1.35 inches wider on each corner. My guess is that the knuckle has about 1 inch more width built into the casting and since the acles are different part numbers, the axles are likely about an inch longer to make up for the knucles being out further. The longer axle would allow for more axle travel.
Thank you for your input on all of this.

That's more or less what I thought from comparing by eye when I was under both at the dealer. I just assumed all the parts contributed but it makes sense it was doable by the hub and axle.

I did not however do any real comparing of the fender liner/structure behind it because that would require removing the liner and really taking some measurements. All I know is 34" easily fit on the OCTA but just barely require removal/adjustment of the front mud flap.

On my 2017 Range Rover I just tucked the front face of the fender liner back about 1/2" which made 32.5" tires on ET 25 work perfectly. I was surprised that tire size, 265/60--20 is actually larger than normal stock Defender sizing.
