Default Coolant leaking from Aux radiator

2020 P300 2.0L turbo 110 S Defender with 45K miles ...... warranty runs out in 5K.

So, the dealer went ahead and replaced the LR106640 thermostat and sensor housing (throw-away plastic) assembly before the warranty runs out and I believe this action will address what was clearly a slowly failing thermostat (or sensor).

We may have also found the source of my slow coolant leak. The mechanic pressurized the system and it lost pressure. He could not find the cause in the engine bay. However, the dealership is seeing "many" leaks from the hoses in the area of the Aux. radiators. i have two mounted downward and outward. So, the mechanic removed the two covers on the aux radiators and found the U.S. driver's side aux radiator to have a leak (from poor mfg. quality). A new one is now on order LR128288 and will be replaced under warranty.

Also, while changing the oil, the mechanic found a leaking LR135858 push-in oil plug. This little piece of plastic has a rubber oil ring on it and is located at the back of the engine. The mechanic replaced it.

Solely as an older person's aside, the shift to plastic engine parts is disturbing.

Enjoy !

This is our 4th JLR vehicle and all of them have the same dainty brittle plastic coolant tubes. They have all had leaks before 40k miles. They're so easy to snap. Ask me how I know.

My 2023 130 had low coolant pressure at around 7k miles. I opened the hood to see the coolant res empty.
I looked around the hoses and saw some residue around the hose connections on the driver's side.
I brought it to LR.
They said so far, "It's the upper hoses".
Then they gave me a loaner... fast forward 2 weeks, and they said yesterday, "there are many people with defenders with this problem and the hoses are on backorder, we don't know when they will be coming in..."
I told them for the prices of these vehicles, they better find a solution... I should not have to pay this much and be without a car this long (I might've even said "Toyota wouldn't have had this issue..." -- I admit, I was very annoyed being this a new vehicle )
Now they might have the other dealers in the northeast send the parts needed based on inventory.
I'll keep you posted, in case it helps anyone else out there... I have pictures of the leaks somewhere too. If I find them, I'll share

I finally got tired of adding coolant and dropped my Defender off last week for the slow coolant leak. They found that my leak is the hose between the radiator and engine block. Supposedly the new hose is coming in today from a dealer in the midwest that had one in stock. I sure hope so since the body shop finally got the new rear bumper in after a 2 month wait and I want to move it from the dealer to the body shop. Then just need my backordered windshield to arrive too.

After getting an o-ring replace that fixed my coolant leak in late May, now 2 months later, my reservoir is showing a drop again.

took the car into the dealer (3rd total trip now for low coolant) and once again the car passes pressure tests with no explanation of why it’s losing coolant…

the SA told me that they are seeing a pretty good number of RRs and other LRs that are just burning coolant and recommended I just top it off every 3-6 months. It appears that’s the nature of these motors.

granted here in Austin we’ve had unprecedented heat and I’m starting to think that maybe it’s a possibility…but if LR would just tell people that it’d be way more comforting than just bringing the vehicle in and it “keeps passing pressure testing, so no problems here…”

sigh…not sure what to do here…

Our 2021 loses a little coolant every year. The coolant level in the expansion tank drops from "max" to "min", so not much. I just add coolant once a year to bring it back up to max. It's either the tiniest leak or the engine is burning up some coolant.

Default Low Coolant light

Hello!

2020 P400 46k miles.

I loaded her up to go to the beach this morning and went to pull out of the garage when the low coolant warning shows up on the dash. I thought it was weird and popped the hood open to find the reservoir empty.

I will be calling the dealer in the morning and hope it is a quick fix.

Is there a specific type of coolant I need to get to at least get me to the dealer?

Thank you!

PS Beach still happened wife’s RR had to pull the beach driving sand duty.

For perspective I live in hot *** Texas, so I question if these coolant problems occur in cooler/cold climates…

but after getting my o-ring fixed in late May which was the “reason” for my slow coolant leak, I now have a half full reservoir again.

took the vehicle back to the dealer and they pressure tested it again for the 3rd-4th time. Says everything is okay.

the service advisor told me that they’re seeing vehicles burn off coolant every 3-6 months and needing a top off…

So…if the motor is made to do this, then I wish LR would just say that…sure would make me feel more comfortable…

what to do…what to do…

I am in Central FL which has been unusually hot this summer.

However, I would not consider my driving to be strenuous in any way so I feel it should not happen but hey if I need to top off every-now and then tell me, like you said.

The low coolant light ended up being a leak in the pipes and at the connection with the turbo.
