I’m getting close to the end of my warranty and I have a phantom “low coolant warning” light. Sometimes it comes on and then goes away after a restart. Has anyone experienced similar and how urgently should I address it with the dealer?

 

The coolant sensor is extremely sensitive, so if the coolant level is even a little low, it can cause the light to go off. I'd check the coolant level when the engine is cold, and if it looks low, top it up. If you smell coolant (sweet smell) under the hood, go to the dealer as soon as you can to have them check for leaks.

 

I've had 2 slow coolant leaks that eventually tripped the coolant level sensor. One was a coolant hose that went to the intercooler and the other was the lower hose between the radiator and engine block. No dripping, just really slow leaks with the leaked coolant probably evaporating.

Take it to the dealer before the warranty expires and they can probably find your leak.

 

I dropped mine off today - 2023 110 - for this exact problem. I refilled the coolant and about a week later it was flashing again. Something's up. On top of that the A?C stopped working one day, worked the next. Ghosts in the machine.

 

Which engine do you guys have?

 

4 cylinder. Picking up today and will update.

 

As others noted, it’s a very sensitive sensor and will trigger easily.

My service advisor confirmed that it is not remotely uncommon for the coolant to need topped off more frequently than seems normal. It’s just a function of this engine and I have had this experience several times.

Also, you may note it being triggered if you park on a slope. When I go up to the mountains and it is parked on a slope for a couple of hours out overnight, it trips the sensor then returns to normal once I start driving on more level terrain.

 

When I checked it, the coolant was right at the "minimum" level, so was not surprised it was flashing, and found the orange coolant type for the LRs and I filled it up to "max". But about a week back it started flashing intermittently again so I figured something is leaking and let's get to the dealer and make sure it is nothing serious while I am still under warranty. Coincidentally, at the time the coolant light first came on, the "check engine" light also kept coming on, which raised my concern level, but I can report that the new software update also made the "check engine" light go away/turn off (which the release stated it would do. . .). And of course the "Vehicle Health" app just spins - even post software upgrade - and no info there so on your own.

 

I have a low coolant warning from time to time, but the coolant is right at the MAX mark on the tank when cold. I haven't had the energy to take it back to the dealer. Does any one know how the low coolant sensor works?

 

I have the p400 … don’t know if the issue is more frequent for one engine or the other.
