Default Maintenace brake lines and tranmission box

I hav a Defender 2020 240D. 102.000 km. The dealer informed me that the brake fluid and lines need to be changed. As well as the gear box oil. Why do the brake lines need to be changed that soon? Is there a problem with the brake lines?

FWIW I had my transmission oil changed just before 100k miles (not kms) and it has felt worse ever since. Seems like you could go longer unless you do a lot of towing. Brake lines don't really make sense to me either, unless there is visible corrosion, leaking, etc. Sounds like they just want some business.

Scheduled maintenance in the P400 at 102,000k includes but not limited to
  • Replace flexible brake lines
  • Change rear locking diff oil.

Definitely will be some similarities with the D240. Just check your owners manual. It will show you all the service intervals and requirements.

I would not replace the brake lines at that point. Seems ridiculous to me as well, no reason to do so unless they’re an obvious problem.

The dealer is not plucking these items out if their ****. That was my point.

is it needed/overkill/advised/appropriate?

that’s a different matter.

I am curious what the flexible brake lines entail. Is it just a small component of the system? Does it require major disassembly to remove and replace the lines?

something I don’t need to look at for about 20,000miles but good to know.

I dunno, my dealer hasn’t had me do them yet on my P400. I’m approaching 65k miles. My SA said around 100k along with spark plugs.

At around 60k we did the transmission/diff flush and air filters. I’ve done oil every 5-10k. Brake pads and rotors as needed.

Also, Gavin, unrelated to this thread but my dealer did find the rear drivers side dampening shock is loose/failed. Quoted $1,100 for a new one, but I think my extended warranty should cover it. People above 50k miles, I would highly recommend you check your rear dampening shocks before they fail entirely. Especially if you have any type of metallic clanging/rattle in the rear.

yes my passenger rear shock sounds like it’s rattling. There’s a thread discussing this. My dealer was unfamiliar with this common failure and unable to diagnose. It’s going back again on 13th.

some sort of extended warranty is likely needed. I’m at 42000 miles.
