1- cost obviously a new one I have nearby in spec i like is ~$100k
the used 2021 even more loaded but maybe missing something due to older version, is basically $50k
2-factory warranty vs buying 3rd party for the 2021 with 65,000 miles. - i don't have pricing yet but the 3 yr 40k for my similar mileage 2017 RR SV AB was about $4500 ? maybe 5k.
3-any features just not on a 2021 of same engine and trim level? The more I research it looks like all the same options are there and nothing has really changed or been added to the 2025 vs 2021 like Terrain Response 2, various packages, etc. All the driving aids seem the same.
The only thing I noticed is a few things in the center console design / cubbies and the nav screen size, which I'm fine with the larger but actually like rthe 2021 size for how it sits between the dash beams.
4- I think i was told some things about the tail lamp housings changed to flush face and people are adding supplemental reverse lighting.
Am I missing any actual standard feature changes aside from color choices, or major options ?
I have a 2007 lr3 since new that is heavily modified (8000 lbs, 2nd fuel tank, dual battery, many things including full off road articulation of 34" KM2 on factory 18's and winter tires on factory 17x7. The lr3 has center 2nd row seat removed and replaced with a 40L ARB freezer fridge and 3rd row seats are out with sublfoor used for recovery gear. ARB bullbar and Kaymar rear with tire swing arm. Full coverage underneath.
I also still have my 2004 Disco II I bought nearly new with still under 100k miles and now a 2017 full size Range Rover SV AB on 32.5" 265/60-20
One idea is if we love the L663 so much, we could order an OCTA in a few yrs or just live with the 2021 even longer. Or, buying it used one can be sure the 110 is the right size or maybe later they will offer a 130 with more practical cargo design.
Anyway, any thoughts are appreciated.
For 2026 the Defender has gotten its first significant facelift, but it is just minor changes to the front and rear facias, various trim changes, as well as a bigger screen (3rd size the Defender has had). However, you’d be correct in saying that Defender hasn’t really changed since its release. A 2021 110 X is still very much relevant, and would have all the features (-11.4” or 13.1” screen) due to being the top model at the time. As long as it has been serviced and maintained well, I think that is a great option to buy used, save 50%, instead of new.
2021 is one of the years you'd want on the used market because they started removing options in the 2022MY during the chip shortage. Things like ClearSight mirror, Meridian Surround, 11.4" screen, HUD, and some USB ports were removed during the chip shortage. As others have said, there isn't really any difference in features other than the console redesign for 2025 and the different screen sizes. Wood trim became unavailable for 2025 if that's worth anything to you. The tech is all the same, as well as the option packages.
What are the trim levels of the 2021 and the new 2025 you're looking at? Trim levels have changed over the years, but equipment has remained pretty much the same (with the exception of certain 2022-2023 models that were affected by chip shortage).
As for reliability, the L663 has a great track record so far. Plenty of Defenders out there with over 100k miles with no issues. Hopefully the previous owner did more frequent oil changes than the JLR recommended 21k intervals.

I'm not sure it's that black and white. Mine is an early 2022 (ordered may 2021, delivered November 2021) and has the clear sight mirror, larger screen, all the USB ports and the sunglasses holder in the overhead. The only thing I'm missing is a locking gas cap, and I'm not even sure those were ever specced for the US market.
I do find it funny that my "base" P300 with fabric seats (which is what I wanted) has higher levels of equipment than my friends' P400 premium trims.

You're right, it's not that black & white. There are many 2022MY vehicles that are de-contented, and many of the early ones like yours were built to spec. Content removal started happening partway through the model year. 2023MY was significantly worse. So while yes, there are plenty of 2022s with everything, not all 2022s have everything. Whereas all 2021s will have everything.
Locking fuel door was never offered in the US. Not sure why, but it wasn't offered, nor does it seem it will ever be offered.

This is all great info, especially the oil changes which I can check.
2021 was 1 owner and appears at various rover dealers on carfax. Pretty top spec with adventure and winch stuff as well as the two tone inset in that more brownish windsor used back then as opposed to the Caraway used now, has HUD, the E-mirror, towing, air kit, rack, cold, ventilated, etc.
2025's I'm considering are all top spec with the winged headrests/higher spec leather, and basically all the actual built options. I did just check out a 130 X that had it all except for the towing package LOL - how does that make sense but then again, the full towing "2" option is some $ and some people would literally never care. It did have the 2nd row captains seats though, which to me are interesting from the idea of fitting one of my ARB fridges between them mounted to the floor while retaining a "4 seater" after removing the 3rd row and building in a functional cargo floor/storage space.

Do you know if this issue of options and small things resolved with 2025's ?

Some things are still missing, such as 2 of the rear seat USB ports (there is still 2 others) and the sunglasses holder. But again, as other posters have said, what was removed really depends on the car. Based on what you have said about the car you are looking at, I think it is a great option to get a Defender. The chip shortages didn't remove things like power seats or anything really significant.

Oh right, today we noticed that the 2021 had both the ceiling sunglasses cubby and the center sun visor. I also heard that some year of the Defender had a auto/soft-close rear door.
Tonight I am going to research the difficulty of adding the electronic/software aspects of the "towing package". The receiver itself looks simple to bolt in. I don't really need the automatic helper reversing so maybe the wiring for trailer lights and braking is already in the body and all that would be needed really are the receiver and the wiring to the plugs from a nearby loom ending as it was in my LR3 many yrs ago.
