@nashvegas has the silicone method held up well since you did it? I'm having the rattle again, and it is the lower bass speaker grille that is rattling. I just got it back from the dealer last night, and they claimed to fix it with foam tape, but just made it worse. When I apply pressure to the grille, it stops, so I'm hoping applying silicone to the grille tabs will be the end-all, be-all solution to this annoying problem. I don't want to take the door panel off again, as it has been off so many times now and I don't want to break any more clips, but I'm willing to do it one last time of this will get rid of at least 90% of that rattle. I'm borderline going insane over this rattle; it drives me nuts.

maybe it’s not the grills if you have taken that many steps.

in my previous post i mentioned i sound deadened all doors, door cards etc. probably excessive amounts. i dont have any rattling whatsoever and pretty heavy wattage aftermarket system. if you end up deadening the cards it should mute vibrations

i think its worth it beside fixing the rattles. i dramatically reduced road noise and the cabin is much quieter

I know for a fact it is the grilles. I have also added dynamat to all doors both behind the outer and inner door panels, taped up the grille tabs with Tesa tape, removed all stickers, as well as taped down anything that could cause a rattle and still the problem persists. If I apply pressure to the speaker grille, the rattle stops.

not sure if the pic above is the latest mods but it didn’t appear you tapped the right section. the little slats that insert into the door cards is where most of the rattles came from. i bent them up and then tesa taped them and back them back very securely in place. then i added a peace of sound deadening on top of those slats

Yep, good here. I was wondering about this last month when it got cold. So far - no rattly rattly I put so much goop on them last year. Much better than my original tape method.

Perfect, thank you!! This will be my weekend project. Might as well go ahead and do all four door panels, even though only my driver's door is rattling. Glad that you found a permanent fix!

Well, I applied the silicone over the speaker grille tabs and I snapped the door panel back on to make sure the rattle was no more, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case.

The door was still rattling, and I was pissed. Like properly, lividly pissed.

At this point it couldn’t have been the speaker grille. I started looking around and then I noticed that I could see the piece of felt that’s behind the speaker grille was moving around. I popped the panel back off, and played some more music and the rattle was gone, so it had to be that piece of felt, as everything is fastened down. I used the Tesa tape that was recommended by @nashvegas and secured the felt to the honeycomb on the back of the door panel, and also taped up anything that could potentially cause a rattle.

I then snapped the panel on again, and I played Country Grammar by Nelly - a song that has always caused my door to rattle. Well, I pressed play and was fully prepared to hear that 808 at the beginning of the song rattle my door to the seventh circle of hell and back. But all I heard was powerful, deep and clean bass. No more rattle, not even a hint of a rattle. I’m ecstatic - so happy that I can finally listen to music without being distracted by the rattle from hell.

So all in all, I solved the mystery and I wouldn’t have had to go through this ordeal if it wasn’t for that meddling piece of felt. I went ahead and taped up the felt in the rest of the bass speakers, even though they were not causing any rattles. I wanted to be certain to prevent any potential rattles.

Again, a huge shout out to @nashvegas for recommending the Tesa tape. It is truly excellent, and I now swear by this stuff!

Oh that is really interesting. I see what you did. You put little pieces of the tape on from the rear, through the honeycomb, to the felt.

Very interesting indeed. JLR really whiffed this.

Yeah, it all kind of makes sense now that I figured it out. The rattle didn’t sound like a metal-on-metal or plastic-on-metal rattle, but more like a piece of paper buzzing inside the door.

I can also see why my dealer couldn’t figure out the cause of the rattle, as the felt is there to help prevent rattles in the first place, and I understand why it was overlooked.

Still kind of ironic that the felt to prevent rattles and to protect the speaker was the root cause of all this.
