Default MHEV engines winch options

is that true that only OEM warn winch with remote works with MHEV 3,0 L gasoline due to electrical issues

I've not heard that, but I did install the factory recommended Warn Zeon 10S. I didn't purchase it from Land Rover and it did not come with a Defender specific wiring module that Land Rover includes. The only issue I've had is I have to power cycle it before going somewhere it might be needed as the remote won't at times, but power cycling it always seems to fix the issue.

Thank you very much. How technically challenging is the installation process? Would you recommend some specific winch platform or stay with the OEM?

The factory tray is specifically built for the Warn, I would be hesitant to put anything else on it. There are aftermarket winch mounts that may be more flexible when it comes to winch options

Ditto that I hadn't heard that. I went with the Warn Zeon 10. First, because it fit the winch bracket that I had with the Australian bull bars. Second because during the height of the pandemic supply chain issues I couldn't find the 10S ANYWHERE. So, I bought a 10 and then a replacement synthetic line (combined cheaper than the 10S) and Voila, I'm good.

I have the P400 X-Dynamic HSE 2022, bought June 2021. It is an MHEV. While I use the winch only very infrequently, I've never had a problem. I do have a HUGE cut off switch installed in the battery bay. If I'm not using the winch, there's absolutely no power. Not sure if it helps or hurts, but I'm old school cautious on a lot of stuff and wanted it in there.

Good luck.

Hi GrouseK9, can you take a picture of exactly where you placed the HUGE switch ? Thank you in advance.

To isolate the winch a solenoïde / relay is needed. The winch can take up to 450A. So a heavy duty type is needed.
I use the Kissling 29.511.11 , so just with the flip of a switch I Power up my winch. After shutdown no current will flow, so everything is safe.

The cheapest I could find on the web:

Here you go. It's in the left bay. Passenger side. I really like it there, but I am also going to drop in a compressor practically on top of it. I have a LONG number of things to do that are pushing it back, but I have the parts! It's the Saltek version (Link) bracket and the twin compressor from ARB. However, I'm REALLY eyeballing the hood. I may add some rivnuts and just mount it in the same location upside down on the inside surface of the hood. Hope you can envision that. Then when the hood is closed, it will fit there - but when open, I can get to both the winch switch and the compressor. I've laid it in there and think I still can operate the switch. I'm still thinking it thru and thought with my few brain cells usually takes a while...

Anyway, here's the switch location. Let me know if you want different pics or angles.

Sadly, I can't give you a link to the part because I got it from ebay. I took a chance and must have been living clean that week, because it's perfect. It's a 500-amp cut-off switch if you want the search terms. I'm sure someone more electrically inclined than me can give you a more proper spec, but I went overkill.

I installed a "non-LR" Warn winch and it's been fine without the LR-bespoke overcomplicated wiring harness. Which adds about 2-3K to the price of the winch. Warn = 1-2k depending on what you buy. From LR the same winch is 4-5 K and the only difference is instructions and the wiring harness. It's a huge difference and I went cheap as chips since I was also doing a bullbar and some other kit. I also did not like that the genuine LR winch package only has wireless function on the remote... total no go for me in the woods.

The reason the LR specific wiring harness exists is apparently so you don't have a go at pulling with the winch, and then the engine shuts off during an eco stop/start... and the engine attempts a restart while you're pulling w the winch. Which then may overload the electrics and fry things. So, during an engine start command, the way the LR harness is wired in, it cuts power to the winch. (and/or it prevents the engine restart command while winching- one of the two, can't recall). I read this a few years ago when looking at winches.

I thought this a bit ridiculous.

If you would like I can post up detailed install info on how I did mine. I took tons of pics etc but never got around to it.
