Re: Nitto Terra Grapplers - I've put about 10K miles on mine and been happy so far. There is some noise increase compared to the stock road tires (Michelin I believe), but nothing that bothers me. The wind noise on the car is much more significant than any tire noise.

They have been good for mild off roading (forest service roads, etc).

One note is that some model numbers are snow rated and others aren't, so be careful if that matters to you. The Nitto page has a chart of which are which. The snow rating adds a bit of weight (even in identical sizes), so that might also impact noise.

Also the tires have two different tread patterns on the side wall (not symmetrical), so you can pick between the two when installing.

I love (LOVE) Falken Wildpeak. No idea if they come in the size you're after though.

Have them on an 00 Disco and a friend has them on his 2014 Land Cruiser. We both agree they are 1) superb off-road 2) superb on-road -- actually handle pretty well) 3) quiet on the roads and highways 4) Great sidewall look.

I was very anti-fallen before I bought my set, then I read MB puts them on their new G Wagens with certain off-road package (and Tire Rack recently was selling those MB approved (kind of like Porsche N Spec if you all know about that) Wildpeak tires for slightly less than the non - MB Wildpeaks, guessing because of demand / over supply.

Also a counterpoint to above, I had Geolanders on a farm pickup, didn't love em. Slippery when wet.

Fwiw, I have had great success with both Cooper's and General.

new wheels probably be 285/45/22. heard great things about the Nitto Ridge Grappler but it’s a little hard to believe they are quiet with that tread pattern.

wheels will prob see no off road use

any other suggestions. Minimal road noise with the most aggressive side wall pattern is ideal
What did you end up with? I'm in the exact same position as you.

Flaken looks really good but doesn't have standard sizes for Defender according to their website selector.

That's because the Defender's tire sizes are pretty much exclusive to the Defender. You can upsize to a 265/70R18 or a 265/60R20 which will fit no problem. These are the maximum sizes you can fit without mods.

I‘m living in Germany and I switched to 275/55R20 Falken Wildpeaks with the standard Defender 20 inch rims - also no mods required.

Correct - since the sidewall is shorter, the overall diameter is actually smaller on a 275/55R20 than on a 265/60R20. 31.9" for the 275/55 vs 32.5" for the 265/60.

275/55R20 is also the recommended size for winter tires per the owner's manual.

JLR is pushing BFG Trail All Terrains 20” for the OCTA. Decent reviews. I have no idea.

Apparently these suffer the same problem as the old KO2s - they suck in the rain according to a lot of reviews. Maybe the OEM version on the OCTA will be better since they are engineered in collaboration with JLR.
