I asked to get a full MSRP refund back down to the order MSRP + all the issues to be addressed, + removal of the clearly useless "paint protection" that hasn't even been applied yet.
I fully expect them to tell me to F off... and I am likely walking away from the deal. Oh well.

I think that's the right approach. This car has clearly had a rough time in transport or someone at the dealership has taken it for a spin through the bushes. Rock chips and scratches on the front fender and the hood-ding. I couldn't accept that on a new car unless it was made right. The rear bumper goop is a frustrating meh.
If the paint protection (yet to be applied) is a PPF I could bite the bullet and go with that. I scratch up my stuff but I want to be the one to do it. Always been that way with everything, from shoes to bikes to cars.
A PPF might be useful if that's what they're flogging. Anything like waxed on sun protection or some other dealer BS would be a no. Let someone else have the car and I'd find something else I was happy with.
I'd be really disappointed for sure but such is life.
I hope they do right by you and get you in the Defender. The long game here is the wise choice. Buy one JLR product and you'll likely get another.

That Tasman blue though.
TY I tried to go for the classic look with the white roof + white wheels. The PPF was not a film, it was literally a whole lot of hot air. Dealer now is saying they will take care of the damages + remove the upcharges....
Well played!! You will love it once you go thru the painful Dealer process. Which is why so many people think they are....(fill in the blank - preferably with something profane). Agree with @GavinC - brilliant color choice!

Agreed, best color choice! I just love the "old school" look.
