I picked up my new 110S p300 the other day (after waiting months for delivery) and within the first 24 hours it started vibrating and lost power. Towed to the dealer and turns out cylinder 3 seized and a new engine is needed. My salesman feels terrible of course, and I am in a MY24 X-Dynamic p400 for the duration. They are also working with JLR about some "joy" cash. I was just updated that the ETA is several weeks to get the engine replaced. Unfortunately, my spec is nearly impossible to find a similar replacement of, so I am a bit stuck at the moment.
Has anyone heard of this happening or experienced anything remotely similar with this engine or is this just my bad luck showing like usual? I generally have bad luck with vehicles, but this is my first foray into the LR world, and while I was expecting the usual problems found in this very forum, this seems a bit...extreme.
I have no plans to own this out of warranty thankfully, but its not off to a great start. To make matters worse, I quite hate the look of the 130 I have now for this extended duration. Its also finally nice weather here, and I just want to cruise around and also put my defender to work and I am stuck in a loaner.
Wow, sorry to hear. I'm curious to hear what the cause was -- Please share the paperwork once completed if it has any pertinent info. Thanks in advance.
Sorry to hear about this - I wouldn't be worried about the replacement engine - the 2.0T Ingenium gas engines have been pretty solid since they came out back in 2017 on the Jaguar XE. Like others have said, it sounds like a manufacturing defect if it happened this early on. I have 35k miles on my 2021 110 S P300 and i haven't had a single issue with it, and I am definitely hard on it. Lots of off-roading and full-throttle acceleration. I'd wait a few weeks for the new engine and they should extend the warranty for added peace of mind.
That sucks, bud, sorry to hear that bad news. I’m sure that was a fluke. I have the same set-up, P300, and it has been rock solid and I have over 75,000 miles on it. I love it and will drive it till the wheels fall of!!!
Welp. The defender has been back in my hands for about 2 weeks now and after the replacement, has been working wonderfully. My salesman applied for Joy cash, and I got an unexpected gift from a JLR NA VP the other day. The dealer had me in a weirdly configured 130 X Dynamic for the duration of the replacement (which helped me determine I’m not missing any of the extras i didn’t spec). Overall my dealer went above and beyond and I cannot recommend or sing their praises enough. If anyone wants a LR or Jag, go see them at Landrover Westside in Cleveland.
Now the info people were curious about: it appears cylinder 3 seized for some reason. I don’t have much more than this to go off of but it seems to be a manufacturing fluke as I have yet to see any reports on any forum or social media about this. As you can see it has 103 miles on the ODO. They put about 300 miles on the vehicle before giving it back to confirm it was good to go.
Wow! Two weeks (+) to source, ship & swap a P300. That's impressive!
I am getting ready to put front brakes on mine (MY23.5) after 20,000 miles of spirited driving much of which is on gravel mountain roads and climbs / drops 2000' coming or going. I live on a ridgetop near Mount Mitchell (20 mi NE of Asheville). The engine will just keep on going unless it runs out of fuel.
You -will- love it! Remember, they were OG in 2017 Jaguar XE models, so we have the soul of a Jaguar (such as it is these days).
