Good luck with the Defender!
will see how things go. What caused me to get excited about it are two things. First being that this place in the UK seems to offer it as an activation after market for only about 2K with hardware included: https://lr-retrofits.co.uk/l663-defender-1

Second, the B roll of them “installing it” didn’t seem to show that much tear down:

for the price it didn’t seem like there was that much labor to it. Maybe that’s a poor assumption but it’s the one that gave hope. Lol

the whole put the camera on top of the car part seems to be missing from that video. I guess I ahven't looked at the shark fin closely, if it's in there that's nuts that they'd ship that out. can't be enough cost savings to include that wiring and the camera to only not put the mirror in.

I scraped my shark fin off (with clearsight camera.) Since I don't use it much I waited a few months, but ultimately I knew I'd have to get it replaced before selling the truck, so why not have it the whole time rather than just give the next guy a new camera?

Dealer wanted $2400 for new sharkfin plus install and any programming needed to get it to talk to the old mirror. I went to my local Indy who does my Porsches and he quoted $1250 including the fin and installation. I thought there must be a mistake. Nope, he said, that's everything. So I crossed my fingers and gave it to him. Sure enough, $1250 and half a day later it's exactly as before.

Again, I previously had Clearsight so this was just pulling the headliner down to install a new fin and making sure it can talk to the RVM.

On my 2017 F150 I was able to “hack” a lot of these computers to enable factory settings that weren’t on my trim level or car. I wish LRJ made it possible for these as well. There are a few activations I would feel comfortable doing but don’t want to spend a grand on a little interface for the car.

For anyone who wants to retrofit, you can change the sharkfin first.
Found reasonable priced fin with camera for $ /€ 225,-

The clear sight mirror is a cool feature but for $ 2000 I would say "hell no" -- it's borderline useless... was just in my 110 X last night, misty outside, dark... cannot see a thing in the clear sight mirror.

I would agree most likely if I were ordering another Defender now; I made a long trip recently, though, with crap piled to the ceiling and the mesh cargo barrier installed, and I was VERY glad to have the Clearsight for rear visibility, which was zero with the RVM. But I never use it as long as I can see out of the RVM. One other thing that didn't get mentioned: it is much harder to see/read details in the Clearsight than a real mirror, meaning identifying whether that's a likely cop car behind you (or your kid who's supposed to be following you but might have lost you). If I am playing around with CS and can't tell if that's a cop lightbar or a luggage rack atop the car behind me, if I switch to RVM I can tell.

I'd say if they were still $800 (what I paid for the option) I'd probably still get it. But I was pissed at that price, since Clearsight had been free (at least on the X-Dynamic that I ordered) the MY before, but they closed 21s in February and I ordered in March of 21.

It's great to have but I'd not shell out a chunk of cash to retrofit it. I use it almost all the time as default. At night I like to go stealthy so all the screens and LED screens get turned off/dimmed so I go back to regular RVM
